The year 2007 had just ended and it spawned a lot of new breed, top notch games for the gaming community to revel over and over again. With the likes of Crysis and The Orange Box, taking the gear up for an unprecedented totally new and immersive experience that is worth the gamers pocket and time spent. Crysis is undeniably a top caliber Sci-Fi First Person Shooter experience that will forever relinquish your doubts about FPS type of game. Orange Box is the much awaited sequel to the ever popular Half Life 2 series, which included episode one and two, with an additional single player bonus called Portal.
Then there is the World in Conflict game, it is a real time strategy game that left RTS fans continually immersed to their seats and played for hours after hours. It is quite a departure from other RTS games which includes resource gathering, building structures and facilities. Nor is it a hardcore war-game simulation. The best thing about this game is that it gives you unlimited access to resources and units to play within time constraints.
Of course, who wouldn’t know Call of Duty 4, the latest from Activision’s Call of Duty Series? With a truly compelling storyline, subversive and intense action, coupled with superb graphics and sound. This game departs from its predecessor as it leaves behind the familiar World War 2 battlefield to take its stake on modern civilization warfare.
The release of Gears of War in the gaming community was also one of the highlights of the. It is also a FPS game for both stand alone and multiplayer modes. It is a terrific action packed experience, with a superb load out of weapons, an all new exciting multiplayer modes that will leave you playing this game throughout the year.
Gaming community also gives a high approval nod to the release of BioShock, a much anticipated successor to its predecessor System Shock 2. In BioShock , you have the privilege to explore the undersea metropolis of Rapture and experience a definitive nonstop action through its superior game play and plot.
Another game that made its way last year is Flight Simulator X: Acceleration. It is an expansion pack for Microsoft’s Flight Simulator X. Flight sim fans got a treat with this new game for it features new aircraft models, 30 astonishing missions that will let you experience the intensity of flying an aircraft.
Unreal Tournament 3 is the latest installment from the Unreal Tournament series which has spawned a following in the gaming community. In this game , you can have a taste of the grimy medieval world that you can actually thought it was real. It is essentially somewhat a crossover between action packed RPG Diablo and Neverwinter Nights.
Those who loved online tactical shooting game will give two thumbs up to Enemy Territory : Quake Wars. It is battle supremacy between humans and aliens called Strogg. A player here can maneuver different kinds of vehicles and aircrafts to carry out missions. As it is considered a mission-focused game play that will be appealing to both veteran and newbies to these type of shooter games.
For those who loved turn based strategy games headed for a rush to hold a grip on the second expansion of Civilization IV, entitled Beyond the Sword. Gamers were treated to an open-ended game play that lets you dominate the world. Right on, we’ve made some efforts to enumerate some of the exciting games of 2007 above that we felt there is nothing being left for the year 2008. But here again, I’m listing down some of the exciting games to watch out for and will be a sure hit in the gaming market for this whole year.
The much awaited comeback of Blizzard’s well revered sci-fi RTS Starcraft is back with StarCraft II, considered as one of the biggest 2008 release at this early outing. It might not have the grandeur of Supreme Commander, but the essentials that make this game so popular and undeniably irresistible.
Another game that is expecting to hit the big wave is Creative’s Assembly’s Total War Series entitled Empire: Total War. It is considered as one of the finest strategy games ever to arrive in the market today. This time around, it has a backdrop setting in the 18th century with themes like the Industrial Revolution and an added 3D Naval battle.
The release of Fallout 3, saw Bethesda ’s move from post apocalyptic era to an action packed modern age RPG. With portable mini-nuke launcher featured in this game, it sure to blast away any gamers mind.
With Half-Life 2 both episode one and two achieved its greatness, notwithstanding the year-ender release of Orange Box a success. We are hopeful that Episode three will try to top all of them in terms of storyline and game’s goodness.
Another game to watch out this year is World of Warcraft’s second expansion: Wrath of the Lich King. With World of Warcraft considered as one of the biggest PC franchise, it is posed to be an enormous seller early this year for Blizzard.
Next we have Codemasters’ Operation Flashpoint 2, with its predecessor a proven success, this is a game to watch and consider. With Operation Flashpoint 2 promise of unparallel scale of warfare that will turn the tide for FPS gamers worldwide.
Truly, it is still very early to determine who be a big hit in the gaming community but at this early outage, we may safely conclude that the gaming industry will continue to produce groundbreaking games in different genre catering to types of gamers, be it in a PC or consoles like Xbox 360.
