Queen Elizabeth and Nintendo’s Wii Gaming Console: An Inseparable Pair?
Queen Elizabeth and Nintendo’s Wii gaming console seem to create a pleasing mental picture. But, do they really match?
Seriously, royalty and the gaming world actually mix. And that has been proven by this recent interesting tale of bowling and the real live characters of the monarchial government led by Queen Elizabeth II.
But, there are questions to be answered.
Is it because of the holiday spirit, or the professional image of Nintendo, that has caused Elizabeth’s childlike enchantment with the Wii games console? Will her grandson, Prince William, have a hard time to get his own gaming time now that his grandmother has taken a liking to this game given by his girlfriend? Is the public buying all these things, and – just like William and some royal followers – are proud to see that a gadget-loving queen still have what it takes to play a Nintendo game? How is the gaming department taking this all?
The Issue: Love at First Sight.
Let’s have a flashback of that moment, back to the first few days of January of this year. The amusing news bit on Queen Elizabeth and the Nintendo’s Wii gaming console was laid bare by the British paper, The People.
It was actually a £200 holiday present by Kate Middleton, the prince’s girlfriend. A hefty price for a love gift for Christmas season of last year, if you ask our opinion. Nevertheless, it was a well-meaning present for the prince that Kate may have been excited, herself, to give as well.
A particular source of the kingdom said that it was basically the most suitable gift for 25-year-old William because he has this penchant for such things.
Little did William nor Kate have known that time that there was another person close to him who would be sharing this gaming console.
The story goes on to a particular day after lunch at Sandringham.
The monarch observed that her grandson seem to be enjoying the gadget, as according to an observer in the palace who had informed the British paper of the queen’s interest in the game.
The writer of a royal exclusive feature on The People, Dean Rousewell, had written that Queen Elizabeth practically “begged” her grandson in order to have a go for a particular Wii game, a ten-pin bowling game, as told by the palace source.
And when William consented to the idea, the queen wasn’t one to be put to shame for her favor to try a Wii game. In fact, sources revealed, that the queen seems to be a natural gamer – to the utter amusement of everyone else who watched with interest and awe, including William.
An Inspiring Fact: Age isn’t a Factor.
At the age of eighty-one (81), the queen still remains steadfast and strong. And palace onlookers at that time who saw her do her impressive, funny, and amusing moves may have to agree to the fact that although the queen is not getting any younger in years, she has definitely remained as physically fit as she is. In fact, her eye, hand, and body movements are still coordinated unlike other people her age.
This goes to show that anyone who is willing to share the queen’s love for gadgets and gaming can still go for this desire. And Nintendo will probably be happy enough to accommodate this need.
Coming (perhaps) from a possible endorsement by the queen, or being inspired by the monarch’s attitude, many people her age will start to abandon their age-centered lives and start focusing on the fun and games that life still has to offer.
It may be inferred that because of this interesting tale from the kingdom, those who would like to age gracefully may have to take tips from Elizabeth. And probably, there is a game or two that they can share with her. We bet that Elizabeth will consent to that idea if given the schedule for such.
The Possible Predicament: No Time for Games.
Although people may think that it was probably just a ploy for endorsing this rare gaming console by Nintendo, they must be mistaken.
It wasn’t the idea of the prince’s girlfriend, and definitely not to the knowledge of the prince himself. It was a mere spur of the moment. And everyone seemed to have enjoyed the scene.
Problem is, will the prince be able to enjoy his own gaming time with his new gift? With grandmom earning raves and hurrahs from palace personnel because of her charming gaming prowess, and obviously enjoying the time of her life with another gadget yet to toy around with, William may have a hard time steering her away for awhile so he can play with his toy.
The queen seems to have a thing for high technological gadgets, and is fairly moving with the times despite her age since she has been known to purchase the latest items like iPods, mobile phones, and more. And what about updates? She makes sure that she’s not left behind with the latest and best features available. While everyone may have been touched and delighted about this news, there seem to be a present concern of some of the palace personnel. The palace source comments that the queen showed signs of getting addicted to Wii.
Although this comment was merely based on a one-time gaming affair that the source was able to be observing, these concerns may, perhaps, have deeper undertones that we do not see.
Besides, the queen has a tendency to fall in love with gadgets nowadays – with her own collection of these things.
Whatever course this tale may move on in the palace grounds with Prince William, Queen Elizabeth, and Nintendo’s Wii gaming console, it may be said that Nintendo is happy to have pleased not only Prince William, but the royal lady, too (since it’s not every day that a queen of her age will give a favorable consent to such a gaming device). And as long as their highnesses are pleased, the public will surely follow suit.

The Queen does seem to enjoy keeping up with the latest gadgets. Look at her new video channel at YouTube, for instance.
I think that is all inspired by her husband Prince Philip, however. His ‘techie’ ways have rubbed off on her. He has always been a proponent of technology and made sweeping upgrades throughout the royal homes when they first married. Dishwashers installed, washing machines put in, hotplates in the separate royal apartments rather than keeping the kitchens running full steam 24/7, etc. (This was in the 1940s and 1950s, mind you, so these things were new).
This is yet one more reason why I love the royals. Good on ya!

Hahaha. And don’t forget the taverns. Royalty made bars popular.

My wife runs a large retirement communtiy here in Indianpols. The seniors love to play the wii, especially bowling & tennis. They even have tournaments and light heartedly trash talk their oponents. I gues you never realy should have to grow up
