Sure, there's a lot of fighting going around.

North vs South, Elves vs Orcs, Good vs Evil, Capitalist vs Communist, Light vs Dark, Red vs Blue, Aliens vs Marines ... More than 80% of the gaming industry deliberately places you in any setting where such a caricatural opposition is unavoidable, and technically forced upon you by the game engine itself, sometimes to the point that you automatically attack the opposing faction against your will, like that game whose name contains 2 'W' and an 'O'.

But when you look at the players -behind- the characters, sorry, but there's no occurance like men = warriors, women = mages, FIGHT ! Groups are more or less well balanced, players of any sex playing characters of any sex not necessarily related to theirs.

Moreover, place them in a game where there's no Manichean background, and a great freedom of play, and what this article describes simply cease to exist.

Don't forget about the way games are designed. Game designers like to push us into stereotypes, it makes their jobs easier.

The only strong opposition that exists everywhere is between polite and rude people - and this is a matter of education that has nothing to do with gender.

I've been so into online playing nowadays, and I am so shocked that many guys pretend to be women to just gain stuff. It's really disgusting. Being whiny characters on the games and all.

I totally agree Grace.

Gender has nothing to do with how well you can play a game. I just think guys spend more time with it. Us gals tend to find other things more important to do with life however.

And I KNOW women have a lot more patience.... we tend to bide our time and wait for any revenge that is needed. *grin*

Yeah, that whole "Man VS Woman" thing is a load of crap, particularly in the gaming world. Video games are tactical, and the only physical thing about them is hand-eye coordination. I'm a 21-year old female, and I can kick most of my guy friends' asses at just about everything, and they ALWAYS get ticked. If you can't lose, you've got no business playing.
