PS3 and Other Game Consoles: Musings on Its Market Flavor to Tech-Savvy People
The year that had passed was a tumultuous one for gaming consoles not only in the US but also in the worldwide market. Game enthusiasts had seen the struggle of Sony’s PS3 gaming console which came along with Microsoft’s 360 and Nintendo’s Wii . Nearly everyone (the companies, media, and the customer base) were on their toes – waiting, with abated breaths, on which console would eventually win the battle, and emerge triumphant in the market scene.
* The Past Issues and How These Affected Each Other
That was mostly one of the hottest issues to hit modern technology and its line of computerized gaming consoles in the year 2007.
Looking at all these things, one may infer that it may be because of the highly competitive market that these three games have been circling around which brought about the yearly competition in the first place.
It is a fact that these three came from large companies that had been able to carve their own niche and stay strong in the market. The people behind these firms have come a long way in the business to come up with gaming devices that will thrill and titillate people of all ages, backgrounds, and financial brackets.
Gaming perfection was a consistent desire that these three firms had. And the drive to cater to customer satisfaction was one of the things that, most probably, had inspired them to work hard in this particular business.
And although prices came in too steep, especially for Sony (in the attempt, perhaps, to reach their yearly goal of millions of dollars to reap), market sales went on dramatic rises and low-downs much to everyone’s excitement, surprise, and depression.
It was a rollercoaster ride that left everyone in different emotional states. And yet it was something that was most amusing to learn about and take a huge part in.
So what’s another year got to do with the rush to glory of these things? Will PS3 stay strong despite all its initial wrong turns in the market (which included its take on game exclusivity and its spectacular higher prices as compared to its cheaper PS2 version)? Will the other consoles stay in the dark and finally leave the spotlight to Sony (so it can set itself deep in the market and figure out a way to rise above past mistakes)? Or, will the battle among these three still continue up to now?
* The Pros and Cons Lead the Way.
The numbers on leading market sales, its production, its performance, and how the public is accepting all these things have much to do with how Sony and the other consoles will eventually end up on its monthly report for this year.
So what should the public and these companies expect to happen, then?
If the real story about the rise and decline in market sales last year will still have its continuous line up to now, it may probably be that Microsoft will lead the pack. And if we’re going to base it on production base and channeling procedures through independent retailers, this firm will definitely come to mind because it was noticeable that the other firms had a hard time establishing themselves on the market from its past records on its spin on production levels and the like.
As such, if there is something that will be most interesting to take note of that will change things for the better, a worldwide and US-based loyal customer base to count on will probably increase their appeal and make their products last longer.
* It May be On a Different Level of Battle After All, Especially for Sony.
Fact is, nearly everyone placed all their attention on these three game consoles - thinking that these were basically battling against each other in market sales, price, and features.
However, if you would really look into these games, you would probably notice that while these three were concentrating on competing against one another, Sony’s Playstation 3 was also doing another thing amidst all the troubles that it has to go through with the other game consoles.
Thing is, PS3 was hugely competing against itself rather than putting up with all the technological battle with Microsoft and Nintendo.
That’s right. Little did people understand that the competition for PS3 was mostly based against PS2, its earlier computing device for playing that took off like a storm because it was made to cater to a low-priced market.
* Sony Was Actually Doing Fine Amidst All the Opinionated Views from Others.
Some reports indicated to the public that Sony was lagging behind among the other big companies. However, this isn’t particularly so.
While most of these reports tend to lean more on the negative side of things, it is rather quite amusing to note that PS3 was able to rake in a good amount in sales together with (another struggling contender which is) Nintendo.

From last year’s report, this game console was able to garner around 2.6 million in sales for US, and around 6.5 million on the global scene – making it stay as a good competitor for its earlier version and for Microsoft’s 360.
Not bad for the year that had passed for Sony after all.
* Changes Will Still Happen and the Public May Await Another Breakthrough.
With another year to think about, it may be noticeable that PS3 lovers hope to see that Sony’s gaming console will eventually make it big this year. Even though its early introduction didn’t really impress the media and the public, there may still be a breakthrough that may happen if all things will be considered.
In pondering that, it would probably help if the firm would basically focus on its own features while still giving priority to selling its PS2 version.
Moreover, it may also be inferred that Sony may definitely make it to the big time – above the other companies if, instead of always putting all the attention in competing with the other big names in the gaming market, all efforts on producing more and catering solely to the public will be more of its area of focus for this year.

Interesting article !!
And I agree with some of your interpretations. Sony indeed was competing with itself in one area, and making only one version of the PS3 backwards compatible with PS2 games was a huge risk. As it is now the PS3 is more of an expensive blue ray player more than a gaming system. However with the blue ray/hd dvd issue solved I think it is positioned well for the future.
Xbox 360 will always do well with the backing of Microsoft. And now with the advent of user published game content they have opened another arena for themselves.
Nintendo Wii, IMHO has it’s own little niche. That of the casual gamer, family gaming system. Which on it’s own has a huge profit potential. The vast majority of people play games to just relax. If you have a system that is fun, can be played by the entire family and is easy to use, it will go far.
It will be interesting to see what happens next year with this three way battle for the consumer dollars.

People are just waiting for the cost to come down, and then they will be selling like crazy. It’s a better platform than the xbox, and there is no ring of death either.
