And I agree with some of your interpretations. Sony indeed was competing with itself in one area, and making only one version of the PS3 backwards compatible with PS2 games was a huge risk. As it is now the PS3 is more of an expensive blue ray player more than a gaming system. However with the blue ray/hd dvd issue solved I think it is positioned well for the future.

Xbox 360 will always do well with the backing of Microsoft. And now with the advent of user published game content they have opened another arena for themselves. 

Nintendo Wii, IMHO has it's own little niche. That of the casual gamer, family gaming system. Which on it's own has a huge profit potential. The vast majority of people play games to just relax. If you have a system that is fun, can be played by the entire family and is easy to use, it will go far. 

It will be interesting to see what happens next year with this three way battle for the consumer dollars.</description>
