Devil May Cry 4
Devil May Cry 4 is the fourth generation of the action game created by Capcom, Devil May Cry. In March of 2007 the news began to quickly travel that the game, Devil May Cry 3 would have a sequel. It was announced that the versions for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 would be released at the same time, but the version for the PC would be released sometime later. Demos for the game were released during January of 2008.
The player controls Nero, the protagonist, along with series lead Dante. In the game, the player will battle evil enemies up close with guns, swords, and a variety of other weapons. Characters from the previous game, Lady and Trish appear in Devil May Cry 4 along with some new characters, Gloria, Agnus, Credo, and Kyrie.
Gameplay
Gameplay in Devil May Cry 4 is parallel to the gameplay in the previous games in the series. The player travels through the game from “mission” to “mission.” Sporadically a puzzle may need to be solved, or items need gathered. Presentation in a mission is graded on a scale from “D” being the lowest, up through “C,” “B,” “A” and the highest, “S.” Grades are given according to the items which were used, amount of time required for the player to accomplish the “mission,” and “Style Points.” Fighting in a fashionable manner is the focus of the game. This is accomplished through unbroken combos of sundry attacks while avoiding damage. The player has to memories enemy attack sequences, so that he can avoid attacks and keep his fighting style up.
The player can go into a state of super-strength, called Devil Trigger. The player will become more dominant and his health regeneration will slow. Devil Trigger can be activated through the Devil Trigger gauge. Players build their gauge by receiving or dealing damage during conflict, or with certain items. Devil Trigger will only be available after the 6th mission.
There are some new effects in Devil may Cry 4. There are two characters that are able to be played, Dante and Nero. The currency has been changed to Proud Souls. Proud Souls are used to buy new abilities, but Red Orbs are used to purchase new items. Proud Souls are given at the conclusion of each mission; the amount depends on the quality of play. If the player is ranked with a performance of “S,” the highest amount of Proud Souls will be awarded. The cost of abilities changes with the purchasing of other abilities. Abilities can be sold back.
Nero opens and closes the game with his Red Queen Sword, his Blue Rose revolver, and his Devil Bringer. The Red Queen has special features that allow for the increased powerful gameplay. The Devil Bringer can be used to pull Nero toward the enemy or to push himself away. The Devil Bringer will increase in power and ability throughout the course of the game. Nero will be able to use Devil Trigger which will increase the power of his Devil Bringer.
Dante is the other character, who is played. He is played through seven missions, nearly halfway through the game. Dante has pretty much the same gameplay as he did in Devil May Cry 3. He starts with Trickster, Royal Guard, Sword Master, and Gunslinger. Each of which grants him different abilities.
Plot
The game opens to Nero rushing in the direction of the central Opera House. There is a ceremony being conducted by the Order of the Sword. Kyrie, an interest of Nero’s, begins the ceremony with a song. While Kyrie is singing her song scarecrow demons try to defeat Nero, be he doesn’t lose any time, and makes in to hear the very end of Kyrie’s song.
Immediately following Kyrie’s song, Sanctus, the High Priest begins a prayer, and Nero is definitely bored by this situation and is about to leave when his right arm begins to glow. When that happened, Dante busts through the ceiling and kills Sanctus.
The followers of the High Priest immediately begin to struggle to fight for their fallen leader. Dante illuminates these threats with little effort. Next, Nero attacks Dante, in an effort to protect Kyrie. He seemingly kills Dante by his sword after revealing his demonic right arm. Shortly after Dante removes the sword and recovers from his injuries.
Dante then explains to Nero that they are alike and they are like the slain knights. Nero then realized that the knight appeared to be possessed. Nero then escapes through the hole in which he entered. Nero is captured and is charged with crimes and is separated from his beloved Kyrie. He then has to battle his way out by defeating demons only to continue his journey fighting the whole way.
