Making BIG Money on Gamers
Seems to a lot of people, there are a lot of mess ups and mistakes happening in the gaming world recently. Not only are unlikely and potentially messy mergers happening everywhere (but these companies might just prove us wrong, no one is a total know-who when it comes to the ever changing flavor of the masses), but companies seem to be totally going nuts when it comes to their console and game pricing. Pricing, which should have been one of the first things in these (ahem, money grabbing) corporate hotshots minds seem to be getting unpredictable and even mind boggling.
Recently, Microsoft announced, “With the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto IV, Rock Band, Lego Indiana Jones and Ninja Gaiden 2, Microsoft hopes that its current sales trend will continue…”.
This “prediction” (or maybe wishful thinking in their part) is somewhat unlikely, if they keep making the price tags erratic unpredictable (like the latest GTA’s displays?) and totally painful to someone’s monthly bill.
From Gameplayer.com, “on April 24 Aussies will finally find on the shelf at their local games retailer the DualShock 3 – which is the SIXAXIS controller with rumble. It will set you back $99.95.
How about that! Are they kidding? $100 bloody dollars!
So the chain of events goes as follows: Sony makes mistake. Consumer forced to buy mistake. Sony realises mistake and makes an amendment. Sony makes consumers pay again to replace the old semi-functional controllers they bought the first time around with the fully-functional version they’ve fixed…”
Anyone remember the extremely fat price tag European Rockstar got, when the UK version was released?
Though such news is not at all surprising with the total mess-up with the relationship of mass retailers and consumers nowadays, the unethical tactic of these companies, forcing consumers to pay for items then drastically lowering it if it doesn’t click, is something that people should really start paying attention over.
Even PS2 (yes, this is no typo) games are fetching over $90.00. Someone from a forum suggested that “I guess they are putting high prices cause now more people can affort a PS2”, and this is with a recession coming in all over the globe.
Maybe we should seriously think of going back to playing chess or something less expensive like that… Unless of course, your chess set is made out of gold.
