Salaries of Game Experts
“New information from the U.S. Census Bureau reinforces the value of a college education: workers 18 and over with a bachelor’s degree earn an average of $51,206 a year, while those with a high school diploma earn $27,915. Workers with an advanced degree make an average of $74,602 and those without a high school diploma average $18,734”, according to the U.S. Census Bureau website.
Yes, college degrees can double your earnings for the year. Although relying solely on your talent is not really that bad, as there are lots of millionaires, and even billionaires, out there who were not lucky enough to get into college due to lack of funds or whatnot, it is the thing is, not everyone can rise to the top as the lucky ones were able to do.
Vocational certificate (which ranges from one year or more) holders in engineering can earn as much as $3,880 a month. Whereas the annual salary average for graduates of Behavioral Science Salary Information (2004) falls around $27,870 and $45,570 (according to DiplomaGuide.com and the Bureau of Labor Statistics). Sadly, not everyone can cope up with the memorizations and mathematical figures that most degrees are associated with, normally, most people who force themselves to take up courses that they did not really have interest on in the beginning will drop out on the second semester of their first year.
But lucky for most gamers out there, there are cooler alternatives for educational attainment (we’re especially giving a loud shout-out to the younger ones out there). No need to force yourself to be a doctor, sonny, coz you have the chance to be a game expert now… And the salary is not the bad either.
For an aspiring Game Artist, there are lots of fields that he or she can put focus on. The jobs available are different, and there are even new job descriptions developed for specific company needs. Annual income is said to be around $40,000 to $65,000, not bad, but certainly not the best. But since you will most likely be in a creative and somewhat comfortable environment, it’s ok. But take heed, you need to be a master artist (well not really, but being one of the best should more likely seal a good contract) before you even think about applying for this job. How can conceptualize characters and a good gaming environment if you don’t even know how to draw well in the beginning? Originality and knowing your own style is also a huge must, because not only will you be susceptible to legal anomalies, but you will get a bad reputation in the artist community
Meanwhile, Video Game Animators receive around $45,000 to $70,000 a year for their services. Although the salaries for these experts are somewhat above that of a Game Artist, the job they are required to fulfill (and do well, that is) is not easy. A vast knowledge when it comes to animation style and storytelling is required. Cooperation between the Animator and the Artist is the key to achieve seamless scenes for the gamer.

Uh huh…they forgot to mention the massive layoffs in between gigs. Electronic Arts is notorious for this. Most schools will teach you to fly the software (which no way in hell you will ever afforf to practice on) and offer none or little job placement. Basically the 3D industry sux !
