Why PS3 Can’t Cross Wii
All of the game industry leaders, and us mere mortals, are amazed at how much Wii has dominated its field. Not only is it an overnight success (well, sort of, it’s not like Nintendo has been a scary presence for Sony ages ago), but it seems to be keeping its momentum for quite some time now. A few years back, the experts and analysts said that it’s almost impossible for Wii to stay ahead of the game.
For one thing, most of the more (or most) popular games released in the market are only for adults, or parents are advised to take proper precaution when letting their kids play the games. On this point alone, Wii is quite a goner, or at least that’s what they said.
But up till now Wii has not been phased out, and most of the time the other consoles only sell because the Wiis available on the local store is either still on order, or is defective.
However Sony is not taking all of these unfavorable things lying down. Many gamers argue that the Sony PlayStation 3 is not selling as fast as the Wii did because it is too advance for most people out there. The lack of great games is a major factor for the scoff-worthy sales that the PS3 generated on its launch.
Well not anymore. As of late, the PS3 has begun to pick up speed as the sales are becoming more favorable for Sony. Not only has the latest Grand Theft Auto release been a heavenly gift for Sony, but the general public (especially in the U.S.) has begun warming up to the idea of online gaming.
Maybe the PS3 is a bit too techy before, but now that the age of fast technological advance has been acknowledged (heck, even my great grandmother has a phone), we’re all becoming techies… And this is something that Sony might have known well before Wii was released.
Sony, as we all know, has always been the leader when it comes to long lasting machines (that function well and is worth bragging about) that are quite ahead of their time… And the price range as well (you can own 2 consoles of a different brand for the price of a PS3).
The PS3 is a wonderful machine, hands down (though it is quite heavy than the norm). When it comes to beauty and performance, it is no doubt a revolutionary high-tech gaming legend.
But as long as the price tag is not agreeable to the market, the sales of PS3 will never be the top (or push Wii out of the way, for that matter). It doesn’t matter how flawless or ingenious it is, or how many great reviews or 8.8 it gets. As long as the mass isn’t buying, there’s no hope for Sony Top debut.
