Operation Darkness (Xbox 360)
Operation Darkness is a strategic role-playing action game. It was created only for the Xbox 360 and was published in October of 2007 in Japan. The game was scheduled for release in North America for late June. The basic idea of the game is that it is a fantastical depiction of the Second World War. The weapons are represented from that time period along with the events which take place in the game. Fantastical additions to the game include dragons.
Basics
Operation Darkness shadows a squadron of British soldiers who are fighting the Nazi forces across the Europe. Much of the story is the actual history of the European War. Some of the reenacted battles include: the battles for North Africa and also the battles of the liberation of mainland Europe. Just as it was in WWII, the game will feature French fighters, American soldiers, and fighters from other nations. Not every part of the game depicts the actual history of the battle. Fantastical features like zombies of Nazi soldiers join the fight as additional opposition. Also two characters from this game have the ability to transform into werewolves.
Gameplay
Gameplay is made up of several premeditated battles. The player has the ability to gather more characters, buy new item, and choose which characters will participate in the next mission. The battles take the standard role-playing approach. Characters can move, attack, collect items, and cast spells during a turn. Battle factors include cover and decreased precision form movement. This game is different than most other games in the role playing battle game category. This is because there is a large amount of fighting that takes place at a distance rather than the traditional up close combat. Some of the fighting does take place up close though. A lot of the characters are able to accurately hit targets at a long distance. The characters who are killed in battle can be revived by one particular player before that stage is over. If he is not revived by the end of that stage, he is a goner. Other soldiers can be recruited to play alongside you, but a story character’s death will result in a game over. All of the characters have some exciting characteristics such as; military spirit, attack, defense, speed, hit, avoid, weight and move. In addition to these characteristics, each character has specific skills associated with his weapon and apart from it. Every character is able to carry up to five weapons and five items. The kicker is that the weapons and items are weighted, so a character who is carrying too heavy of a load will have limited movement.
A great exciting and fun feature of this game is that two of the characters have the ability to transform into werewolves. As werewolves they are fast and able to attack quickly. The problem is that these characters can’t stay transformed for long periods of time.
