yutytyity.gifThe big boss of PlayStation, Kaz Hira, is very confident that the PS3 will be a console for the family in the near future… Well, that’s what he thinks.

PlayStation 2 was a family friendly console, as many of the games were quite tame and not so macho, as compared to the current positioning of PS 3 and the games one can play on it. (more…)

Eye Candy: DirectX 11

July 23, 2008 By: Flopjack Category: General, Industry News, PC No Comments →

directxelevn.jpg

Microsoft has announced the up and coming DirectX 11 and some of the brand new features they plan to add to their dominating graphic programming. New features will include functions such that a person, for example, in your game against a background (like a mountain or some distant visual) will have a more subtle blurred line distinguishing them, between them, for a more realistic distinction. Visuals will be clearer and better looking as expected too. Support for your hardware will also increase such as support for your multi-core machines, allowing developers more extensive control in graphics. The new programming will also allow for some excellent new shadowing techniques and able to use a new technology called tessellation. Tessellation “…which blurs the line between super high quality pre-rendered scenes and scenes rendered in real-time…” Cool.

DirectX 11 will still support previous DirectX 10 but only people with Vista or future windows operation systems will be able to indulge in the new and graphically pretty functions. Perhaps a number of gamers will be upgrading soon? For those of you unfamiliar with what DirectX is, it’s the most commonly used graphic support software (application programming interface or API) that essentially renders our games on screens.

Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution

July 22, 2008 By: Katy Category: General, Hot Games, Nintendo DS, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 1 Comment →

civilizationxbox1.jpgSid Meier’s Civilization Revolution has the abbreviation Civ Rev. Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution is a remake of Civilization, which was developed by Firaxis. Sid Meier was the designer for Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A version for the Nintendo Wii was considered but has since been brushed aside. There is no version available for the PlayStation portable because there wasn’t enough development help to create a version for the PlayStation Portable.

Sid Meier is pretty excited about this creation.

A demonstration of the game was released on the fifth of June in Xbox Live Marketplace, and the North American PlayStation Store. With the demo, players are able to play until 1250 AD. Players can be Cleopatra or Julius Caesar, and can also play in multiplayer mode. (more…)

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - A Hard Look

July 20, 2008 By: TripleJump Category: Hot Games, Nintendo Wii 3 Comments →

Back in the day, there was a game that was released on the Nintendo 64 called “Super Smash Bros.” While it was small and developed on a low budget, it was awesome!Super Smash Bros Box Art Where else could you play as all your favorite Nintendo players and have Mario punch Yoshi until he died? This game was an amazing concept and put a twist on the fighting genre.

Thus, when Super Smash Bros. Melee came out, it was a phenomenon! With even more lovable characters, improved graphics and modes, it enjoyed critical and financial success as one of the highest selling games for the Gamecube. It also became the first Nintendo game to be featured in a professional league. Melee was an amazing game that took Super Smash Bros. on the N64 and improved it in almost infinite ways!

Then came the announcement of Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. The hype was on, would the greatest game for the Gamecube become even greater? With every announcement things sounded better: new characters, new moves and most important of all is the inclusion of online play! (more…)

Critical Hit - The Dark Knight

July 18, 2008 By: GrandMaster Category: General, Movie Talk 1 Comment →

DarkKnight MovieAs a long time fan of Batman, I must say that this film was outstanding. I saw a very, very late showing but stayed wide awake due to this complex and dark adventure.

Batman has always been my favorite super hero for a long time because of the fact that he does not rely on super powers. He uses his passion and desire to make a difference in a dying city. Dark Knight is a display of that.

I can’t ruin much but I want to talk about the story a little first. The plot was similar to what I expected and then so much different. In the end the story wrapped up in a way that I wasn’t expecting but yet I liked it. All in all I think it will set up for a very fun and very different third installment of the series.

Sneaky Earnings

July 18, 2008 By: Lynder Category: Industry News 1 Comment →

With the inflation of gas, food and well, almost everything to that, parents are (gasp) considering cutting back some of the fine luxuries in life, and (more gasp) this includes trimming the gaming bills a bit. But to those gamers who are not bothered by the flaming influx of the economy (or just would not face reality), here are some figures worth looking at.stopfree.jpg

It stinks that the Qore’s (the “highly interactive” online magazine for Sony) annual subscription ($24.99 a year) for some folks would most probably come to a halt, but it stinks a lot more for the gaming companies out there, if ever the millions of customers suddenly start tightening the belt. Nintendo Accessory increases Wii remote accuracy

July 14, 2008 By: Flopjack Category: General, Industry News, Nintendo Wii No Comments →

wiiaccessory.jpg

Nintendo has officially unveiled a little secret for us before the opening of E3. Their new accessory will enable a smoother and more accurate Wii remote (or Wii-mote as I like to call them) during game-play or navigating your system. The devise comes in the form of an adapter that sticks in the bottom of your remote as your num-chuck would. It has an additional slot in which your num-chuck can fit into so you don’t have to worry about giving up your second controller for more accuracy! Nintendo calls their new device the Wii MotionPlus. Nintendo also insists it will “more quickly and accurately reflect motions in a 3D space”. Nintendo will reveal more about their product during the heart of E3 on how, more specifically, it works and most likely a price as no price tag has been set yet. Source

I’ve always kind of thought of the Wii-mote as (more…)
