Refurbished Consoles: Any Good?

August 31, 2008 By: Lynder Category: General, Industry News 4 Comments →

Not everyone can afford the original and new consoles. The new PlayStation 3 80 GB console costs around $399.99, untouched Xbox 360s come around $349.99 for the 60 GB models, and the Nintendo Wii would deduct a hefty $249.99 from your bank account.

It is no wonder that some people are choosing to buy refurbished stocks from stores.from shop-video-games.blogspot.com

For a quick definition of “refurbished”, this means that these consoles (or other products in general, as the meaning is the same in most cases) were restored or fixed from defects. These defects can range from a totally busted machine that was too messed up beyond repair that parts were replaced, or there were major or minor cosmetic defects on the machines exterior, or there might have been nothing wrong with the gadget at all… (more…)

Critical Hit - Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Star Wars = More George Lucas = More of the sameStar Wars: The Clone Wars

I love Star Wars, its one of my all time favorite universes to have a story be told in. I love the Jedi Order and the Sith and all of it. So, why exactly didn’t I like Clone Wars?

Ever since Star Wars, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, George Lucas has been trying to literally recreate the success formula that he stumbled upon. I say stumbled because he’s never found it again. Why? He’s literally been trying to recreate it, character-by-character, line-by-line. Star Wars was the first movie trilogy, ever! Its still one of the best, ever!  Yet, Lucas continues to try to recreate what worked 30 years ago instead of reinventing himself. He needs to take a queue from the James Bond franchise. In Casino Royale, they finally decided to make the Bond films more modern and enjoyable to today’s audiences. As a result, I’m very excited for Quantum of Solace. When I first heard about Clone Wars, I got mad. I knew it was going to be a story that SHOULD have been apart of the prequel’s story line but wasn’t. (more…)

We’re Getting Heated

Everything is growing to be more high-tech nowadays.flame.JPG

A simple compact disk used to be so high-tech, with all the supposed game-savvy people gawking and (yes, admit it) squeaking in delight when they realized that their games need not to be packaged in a bulky and tape-look-alike device.

Well you can’t really blame people and the companies (that bathe using gamer’s money) for developing better (well, they claim it to be) machines, with infinite spaces and ultra fast capabilities. Such as the PLAYSTATION 3’s whopping main RAM of 25.6GB/s, graphics processing unit (GPU) of 550MHz and Full HD specs. Let’s not forget Xbox360 as well, a tight competitor in the market, which also has 550MHz.

Turning For The Better

August 25, 2008 By: Lynder Category: Industry News No Comments →

Shopping has never been this easy. All you need to do when you want to avail a new console is go to a local Radio Shack and go straight to checkout upon having asked the assistant to get you your item. Or, if you are one of those really lazy types, then you can just log on to your PC and shop online, unlike the previous gaming years where the items of gaming specialty stores needed to be pored over (and back) just so you will be able to decide which one you will get, of course the lack of trustworthy reviews and recommendations from respected gamers were also not very many back then… Well nowadays more often than not, your face gets covered by ads from “The Best Gaming Magazine/s” out there.

But did better gaming really come along with the endless selection of games, consoles, platforms and magazines?

Free Gaming?

August 22, 2008 By: Lynder Category: Industry News No Comments →

Nothing is free nowadays. You even need to pay for things that you shouldn’t even pay for, such as those hard to get freebies or souvenirs from a sought after seminar or convention that you weren’t able to attend.freebies.gif

But it is quite surprising for some to find that there are still free (mostly Flash) games out there that are free for everyone to enjoy. Yup, for those who have been hiding under a really gigantic rock, there are free games out there that one can enjoy without shelling out a day’s hard earned salary.

Well, most of them are not playable on the more popular (and really expensive) consoles in the market, but really, they are fun (and quite wholesome) to try. (more…)

A Little Hope In The Industry

August 18, 2008 By: Lynder Category: General 1 Comment →

The widespread piracy problem in the gaming industry has always been a huge problem for most of the professionals in the business. But enormity of it (piracy) is being felt more brutally than before by those who actually sweat and (almost) cry tears (of blood) just so they can find a good idea and a backer (or a financer) for the games, develop it and advertise it, more so because of the fluctuating economies, especially by one of the biggest game producers of all, the super power nation, United States.

But why is it that gaming piracy is so hard to control, more so, to eradicate? (more…)

Critical Hit - Swing Vote

August 13, 2008 By: GrandMaster Category: General, Movie Talk No Comments →

Swing Vote was an interesting and provoking surprise. I’m into politics as I believe it to be Swing Voteour civic duty to pay attention to who we elect into our public offices at the local, state and federal levels. Men and women have died to give us each that right and no one should waste that opportunity. Swing Vote is a reminder of that right that so many of us take for granted.

Bud Johnson, Kevin Costner, is a nobody drunk with a young daughter who is way to smart for her own good. Bud ignores his daughter and wastes his life away until voting day. Then everything crazy happens. In an event so rare that it would be highly improbable to ever happen, the election is held up by New Mexico due to one county and one vote that was messed up. That vote was Bug Johnson’s. So the two candidates travel to Texico, New Mexico to earn the swing vote of one American who doesn’t even care. (more…)
