Nothing is free nowadays. You even need to pay for things that you shouldn’t even pay for, such as those hard to get freebies or souvenirs from a sought after seminar or convention that you weren’t able to attend.
But it is quite surprising for some to find that there are still free (mostly Flash) games out there that are free for everyone to enjoy. Yup, for those who have been hiding under a really gigantic rock, there are free games out there that one can enjoy without shelling out a day’s hard earned salary.
Well, most of them are not playable on the more popular (and really expensive) consoles in the market, but really, they are fun (and quite wholesome) to try.
Some are wondering, why the heck are people developing and promoting these games, without charging the players a single penny?
Well the answer is the fact that advertising is one of the most expensive things out there, and you can get famous through allowing people play games for free. Yup, while some companies are paying for glamorous ads for their unpopular website, in order to give it some boost, even if it cost some hefty hundreds of thousands of dollars, sometimes for just a month or two of promotion!
Whereas when they pay for a game to be made (of course given that the game is well developed) it will be well received by the crowd, thus the almighty word of mouth will do its magic for the companies that own rights for the game. Furthermore, when updates are needed to be made, all they need to do is hire experts to improve the game, and not produce a whole new, farfetched, and tremendously expensive concept all over again.
But not all freebie games are made for big-shot companies.
There are free lancers as well, who create and publish their games for the mass to enjoy, and charge almost nothing in return. Well for one, most of the trends in technologically advanced countries are veering towards the new, yet quite interesting path, of open source programming and software development. Actually, most of the companies that are leading the tech field are very much interested with people who have had creative and marketing experiences as freelancers, or owners of their own small software companies. Which is why despite the fact that it is time consuming and brain draining to develop a game that will not even help you earn a buck (unless you’re going to overload your site with ads) for your efforts.
As for the numerous ads that are fester these free games, think about it, do you really believe that there is still anything free left in this world?
So the next time you are waiting for a stupid game banner to pass, while you are waiting to get to the next round, it’s ok, remember, either a few seconds of discomfort or you would have to shell out a couple of bucks just to be able to pass your time.
