Too Human
Too Human is a video game created for the Xbox 360 by Silicon Knights. This game was released August 2008 and is the first of hopefully three that will set the trilogy. The game features battles, customizable weapons and multiplayer action!
STORY
The player plays as Baldur, who is one of the Aesir. Crispin Freeman is the voice actor for Baldur.
In the game, Too Human, the Norse gods are cybernetically enhanced humans. Baldur is the son of Odin and is one of the mentioned gods. His responsibility is to protect the human race from the assault of advancing machines, because these machines are resolute on destroying all human life.
The story records the ever-going struggle between cybernetic Norse gods, the invading machine presence, and the mortal humans. The story includes many Norse gods and characters from Norse mythology including: Thor, Loki, Odin, Heimdall, Freyja, and Mimir. Yggdrasil is the tree of life that acts as a gateway to an alternate world, Cyberspace. It is accessed only through the advanced technology of the gods. The human gods are using cybernetic implants to provide their own abilities. This means they are becoming more machine-like. On the contrary the advancing machine army is taking human blood and limbs as they are trying to become more human. The main character, Baldur, is seen as not adequitely advanced, or “too human” by the other Norse gods.
GAME PLAY
Too Human is a third-person game. It is an action adventure, role-playing game. Too Human features twitch gameplay, which is in the form of fast-paced melee and ranged combat. While playing the game also maintains RPG elements like dungeon crawling.
Two Human has two features as a third-person action adventure game. Those two features are: melee combat being controlled by the right analogue stick and a camera system that is controlled by AI. The right analogue stick-controlled combat resolves the issue of depth perception during combat, because during combat, the AI-controlled camera system allows for a theatre-type experience, and aiding the story.
The RPG elements of Too Human include: the story, different classes, changeable weapons, armor and cybernetics, and item hunting. There are fifteen weapon classes in the game. This includes: two handed swords, hammers, polearms, pistols, rifles, lasers, dual-wielded one-handed swords and staves. The player can choose color and effectiveness of armor against certain attack modes, along with being able to swap armor sets. The game allows for skill trees to be customized to what the player wants. This game allows players to progress from level one to fifty in this first game of the trilogy. The second game will feature levels 50-100 and the end of the trilogy will feature levels 100-150.
ONLINE PLAY/ MULTIPLAYER
Too Human does allow for two players to connect over the Xbox live for cooperative play. This allows for a drop in/out game play so players can join no matter where they are in the game. Hopefully Co-op players can take advantage of class combinations to defeat difficult enemies and gather rare items.
CLASSES
Too Human features five classes with more available through download. Each class has their own direction in the skill tree. This can be changed when the player creates new classes. Players can not max out all the stats of their character. Players can re-spec their characters to get the most out of them. The producer of the game, Denis Dyack, says his favorite class is yet to come, and will be available via download.
The character classes are as follows:
Berserker- Melee master, can dual and wield melee weaponry
Champion- Well rounded, master of all air attacks
Defender- Increased armor and health, resistant to knockdown, able to use shields
Commando- Master of ranges weapons, ammo capacity increased.
Bio Engineer- Only class able to self-heal and heal allies.
ALLIGNMENT
The two alignments in Too Human deal mostly with skills that increase character speed in melee and ranged combat. The Cybernetic alignment deals with skills that increase character strength.
