Critical Hit - An American Carol
David Zucker returns (you know, the guy who did Airplane! & the The Naked Gun: Series) with a comedy about Michael Moore. Kevin P. Farley (Yeah, Chris Farley’s brother) plays
Michael Malone who is a documentary film maker who makes hate films about American (just like Michael Moore.) Some terrorists (Robert Davi, Geoffrey Arend & Serdar Kalsin) trick Malone into making a new recruitment film for the Taliban. Then they plot an attack at MSG on July 4th. Meanwhile, Malone is trying to abolish the 4th. Why? He’s a lost soul who needs his butt whopped (just like Moore). So, enter the spirits of America to teach him a lesson (Yeah, its based off of a Christmas Carol incase you haven’t caught that yet). The first is the ghost of Malone’s hero, John F. Kennedy played by Chriss Anglin. He tells him that he’ll be visited by three spirits and that he’s a douche. It’s very funny. The first spirit is General George S. Patton played by Kelsey Grammer (one of my favorite actors). Patton literally slaps Malone around and shows him how he’s hurting America all the while making fun of the actual insanity that goes on in our country today.
Then, George Washington gives a brief appearance by Jon Voight. He spooks Malone into seeing Angel of Death played by Trace Adkins (which is funny). Malone finally gets a clue and helps stop the terrorist plot to bomb MSG. It’s a very simple plot but it’s very funny. Why do I say this? Just watch it. They make fun of everyone but sadly, the best humor has a touch of truth to it. That part makes me sad (like the Undead ACLU Lawyers). One of my favorite parts of the movie is hilarious and fun but sad at the same time because the ACLU really DOES the things they are making fun of them for. The best part of the film is everything going on in the background. When you see it, look around the whole time. You’ll see lots of small funny jokes (like the Hammer & Cycle bling at the Movie Awards show. Funny stuff).
The acting was great. Farley did a great job parodying Moore and he’s funny like his brother. Grammer is the best of the group by far but really makes the movie stay coherent. Voight does a good portrayal of Washington but it was way to brief for me. I would loved to see him spend some time as Washington and see his reactions to Moore’s idiocy.
All in all, I recommend it. Its very funny and hopefully will make some people think about their views of our great country. Instead of noticing on the bad things that go one, try remembering how awesome our country is and how no other country comes close to being as good. Remember that next time you complain about it and in the meantime, go see An American Carol and laugh your butt off (lol, that reminds me of another scene).
Until next time, watch out for those Critical Hits in the court room with a shotgun while shooting the Undead!
