Critical Hit - Eagle Eye
Eagle Eye
Here is a fascinating yet predictable action film that I rather enjoyed. Two people are called up on their phones and “activated.” Jerry Shaw, played by Shia LaBeouf and Rachel Holloman, played by Michelle Monaghan. Neither know what is going on and through futile attempts to disobey the woman’s voice on the other end, they end up doing the bidding of their mysterious puppeteer. I honestly can’t say much more about the plot without ruining it. However, when you watch the film, be paying attention to everything. Small things that happen at the beginning are later explained but it all will make more sense when you know why everything is happening.
The acting was really good too. Shia LaBeouf impressed me. I guess there’s a first time for everything. This really is the first character that I’ve seen him play that I didn’t spend every second wanting to smack Shia. Instead, he acted, like a character. What a concept. He did well and I believed his character. Michelle Monaghan did a really good job too as the concerned mother who would do anything the strange voice told her to do just to say her son’s life. Billy Bob Thornton played an FBI Agent who is on the chase for Shaw and Holloman and though it may not have taken much acting on his part (as Billy Bob seems like an angry old man) he did pull the character off. Other than that, the acting was good on everyone’s part but nothing special to stand out. Those three are the real main characters.
Again, there is a ton that I would like to talk about in this review but I can’t or else it would ruin the plot. So, let me just say that if you like an intriguing action film with an interesting but somewhat predictable (at least it was for me) plot, then I recommend a GO on Eagle Eye. You’ll laugh a bit, be tense some and if you’re anything like me, the concept of the movie will scare the crap out of you.
Until next time, watch out for those Critical Hits from mysterious women over the phone!
