James Bond: Quantum of Solace

With every new James Bond movie comes the challenge of re-creating it for the video games market, and the challenge has often been failed. James Bond : Quantum of Solace is the latest title to be attempted.
With James Bond Quantum of Solace performing well in cinemas all over the world, much is expected of the video game counterpart which has been developed by Treyarch. Although James Bond Quantum of Solace is the first attempt at a Bond title by the Treyarch studio, their track record with the Call of Duty titles should be as good a foundation as any to base what us gamers should expect from James Bond Quantum of Solace.
I think it can safely be said that this will never be considered a classic, and I would also go as far to say that it will not be seen as one of the best Bond games either as it fails to live up to the likes of Nightfire in many areas and somehow leaves you feeling like you have missed something, despite the game being a decent effort with all things considered.

Bond fans will probably be expecting a variety of gameplay styles to be incorporated into the Quantum of Solace title, but throughout the majority of the game you will be playing a good, but not fantastic, first person shooter title - with a small amount of stealth action thrown in, but nowhere near enough as more of it would make you feel a bit more like the man himself when you come to the end.
There are a lot of good things to be said about James Bond Quantum of Solace, though. Not least the vast range of deadly looking weapons and gadgets that you will come to possess at various stages of the game. Many of them are a little over the top and appear unrealistically powerful even for Bond, but that is not necessarily a bad thing as it adds a touch of fun to some of the gun fight sequences offering a nice change from a standard pistol fight.
What you won’t be expecting is the lack of a plot, this is Bond after all, but unfortunately that is what you are faced with in James Bond Quantum of Solace. You will be interrupted by video sequences every so often which of course feature some action from the film, and you will see some of the Casino Royale footage thrown in as part of a flashback sequence too, but you will largely feel unguided and a little lost at times as you begin to wonder what it is you are working towards - but for some gamers, the feeling of taking out the bad guys for no ultimate purpose will be seen as a good thing.

Graphically the game is not spectacular by any means and certainly does not match up to the likes of Call of Duty, and Bond fans may feel let down by that. If Treyarch can give their all for the visuals in Call of Duty, Bond fans may feel the studio have underestimated the importance of being given the chance to develop a Bond title and it does look a little rushed at times.
If one thing can persuade you to buy James Bond Quantum of Solace it will be the multiplayer modes as they are a breath of fresh air to what is otherwise a rather dull and repetitive title. Bond Evasion in particular, a new mode, is a team based game where you and your team must escort the player who is Bond to an exit point safely - the other team’s intention of course is to take Bond out. Other new multiplayer modes are certainly worth playing and will drag you back for more time and time again, and all of the standard modes that first person shooter fans will have come to expect are there too - definitely something for everybody, and almost every mode can give you hours of fun when you find the right group of people to play them with.
To summarise James Bond Quantum of Solace, it is by no means a ‘must buy’ title which is unfortunate. It feels a little rushed at times and does not do the Bond franchise justice. However the multiplayer modes on offer are great, and if they were a standalone title, I would certainly pick it up - somehow the single player mode just brings this game down.
