Critical Hit - Punisher: War Zone
Punisher: War Zone
What an explosive fun fest! By the way, I don’t mean explosive as in guns and bombs…no
sir (although there is plenty of that in Punisher) I mean as in exploding heads! I’ve never seen so many exploding heads in a movie.
Bottom line is Ray Stevenson = Frank Castle aka the Punisher. He makes Punisher a very, very realistic character. You gotta understand that I’m a HUGE Punisher fan. Its my fav Marvel character. Why? He got screwed out of his good life and so, he takes justice into his own without the use of fancy tech or super powers. Castle just uses his spec ops training and vengeance as fuel to ignite those who do wrong and get away with it. Underneath, he dearly misses his past life and his dead family. What’s not to love? This is a real guy and Stevenson pulls off the baddassness (yeah I just made that word up) of Punisher and the deep sadness of Frank Castle.
The story takes elements from the War Zone series of the Punisher comic book. It’s a nice mish mash of stuff that fits into today’s America that we all know and love. All in all, it was written really well.
This is technically the sequel to the last The Punisher. However, its several years later and Frank is deep into his vengeance trail. War Zone is much more true to the comic book and earned an R raiting for it. The film has plenty of language (lots of F bombs) and so much gore that it becomes funny at times when Frank is shooting the crap out of everyone in sight…but who doesn’t love that?
My raiting is a GO! But only if you can stand a lot of violence. Also, my congratz to Lexi Alexander, the director German chick of War Zone. Keep it up and I hope to see another one out in a couple of years. Here’s to ya Frank!
Until next time, watch out for those exploding heads and those Critical Hits!
