Critical Hit - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
A curious yet intriguing case is Benjamin Button. This film is based off of a book
(as most movies are lately) and deals with a man that is born as an old man. Benjamin grows up being told by his mother (the woman who raised him, not birthed him) that he is special and that he won’t live long. He ends up living and living and growing younger and younger physically but older and older mentally. It really is an intriguing story.
Brad Pitt plays Benjamin Button and he does a great job. Pitt plays the voice of the character in the entire film but not the physical character. There is a lot of CGI in this movie in dealing with Button but you don’t notice it really. Other actors, such as Tom Everett, Robert Towers and Peter Donald Badalamenti II play Benjamin physically but Pitt’s face is superimposed onto the actor’s body to keep his look the same. The feat is something special to watch even if you don’t get into the story. Cate Blanchett plays Daisy, the long time love interest of Benjamin. She too plays a characters entire life and while her face isn’t superimposed like Pitt’s, her voice is. She is put in heavy make up throughout the film that keeps you focused on her acting as an older character. She does a great job. Another notable character is Captain Mike who is played by Jared Harris. He’s a fun Tug Boat Captain that has some interactions with Benjamin.
I’m going to recommend you GO see Button. Why? Well, this isn’t Forrest Gump so don’t get that mixed up like someone I know did. It’s a long movie that moves a little slowly but it isn’t noticeable. Making Benjamin from the south helps. He’s a laid back guy who just soaks in everything going on around him and it helps the pace of the movie. All in all, I enjoyed it. Good story, good acting, good times.
