Sef’s TOP 10 MOVIES OF 2008!
Oh yes! You’ve waited for it like you’ve waited for tax season but here it is anyway. Try not to cough as you cram it down your throat.
10 - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
I had no choice but to put this on my list. For a movie, it was couldn’t have been easy to do, technically speaking. The acting was sound and the story was unique. So it makes the last spot.
9 - Vantage Point
I bet you forgot about this one because of its January release. This too, like Button, had to make my list due to the fact of its originality in presentation. This was a simple story of about a half hour of time but from the vantage point of several people. You lived the same period of time over and over again from different view points, each time learning something new about the tale. It was fun even though I guess the ultimate bad guy.
8 - WALL·E
PIXAR always makes good movies. WALL-E gets a vote on my list for being for being daring enough to attempt a silent film in this day and age. While the robots made noises to emulate human communication, they really didn’t talk and it worked. Cudos to PIXAR for trying it. Also, they get points for not being a global warming preaching movie but for just saying “What if humans became UBER lazy and depended on a company to run their lives” WHICH BETTER NEVER HAPPEN PEOPLE! Seriously, get up and walk around once and awhile. Tis good for ya!
7 - Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Red returns in a much more fantastic look at the franchise. They had the guts to do a fantasy comic book movie without holding back. It may not have done very well in the box office (like a few of my Top 10’s) but that doesn’t matter in my book. This was a fun movie with characters that I love and they moved the franchise to new heights and opportunities in the Golden Army. I can’t wait for the third!
6 - Get Smart
Steve Carell’s best movie. It was a fun spy movie with TONS of humor. I laughed a lot ton at this film. As I look over my list I see that its the only real comedy to make my list so cudos to that. I look forward to more additions to this new film franchise.
5 - Punisher: War Zone
Maybe you’ve not noticed that I like comic book films? Shame on you! Punisher is one of my all time favorite characters and War Zone held true to the Punisher. Based upon the best series of the comic books, War Zone showed us a realistic Frank Castle in a very entertaining way and continued a film franchise already begun but fundamentally changed it forever for the better. I loved it and can’t wait for more!
4 - Valkyrie
Valkyrie gets on my list for being so suspensfull. I never thought this movie would be as good as it was but I still can’t get over how into the story I was. Why is that so amazing? You know the outcome, everyone does. Hitler didn’t get assasinated but yet Valkyrie kept my interest the entire time. Check it out if you’ve not seen it.
3 - The Incredible Hulk
Another comic book movie?! I know but I love them. Hulk took a great story and made it as realistic as possible and it paid off. This movie was so much fun and Hulk, well, he smashed. I can’t wait for more!
2 - Iron Man
Yup, Titanium Alloy Man comes in a 2. A little better than Hulk but still absolutely amazing. I dont’ know how you could do an Iron Man story better. It was realistic and the acting some of the best I’ve ever seen in a comic book film. Perhaps only #1 on this list is better. I can’t wait for this franchise to continue with more Iron Man and the Avengers!
1 - The Dark Knight
If you know anything about me then you knew this would be my favorite movie of the year. I only counted down the days to this film since I saw Batman Begins. Dark Knight was one of the most entertaining stories a comic book movie has ever had. The acting was as close to perfect as you can get. I just can’t find anything wrong with the film and that’s why it makes #1 on my list. That and I love Batman. I can’t wait for the third addition! (the Caped Crusader? Just a guess)
Be sure to check these films out if you haven’t. I know I had a lot of comic book adaptations on here but it was a heavy year for them and they were all so good. Next year will have a couple I’m sure but not as many.
Here’s to 2009 being an even better year at the movies!
