Move over Tony Hawk, Skate is back! That’s right, the game that sold a ton more games than Tony Hawk in 2007 returns with a vengeance.
The groovy Flickit control system (where you use the right analog stick to perform moves) returns with no real changes but does have some fun additions. You now have use of the other analog stick to pull off some new tricks. While the new tricks like Inverts, one-foots, hippy jumps and finger flips are neat the only trick worth anything is the hand plant. All of these new additions add even more realism to the game than before making Skate 2 just a little better than Skate. The better the flick, the sicker the trick!
The sandbox that is San Vanelona returns with a new look and feel to it. You can also get off your board and run around on foot! This is a fun addition as it allows you to run around and move objects to set up your own spots. However, the running system for your character can also be buggy at times so be aware of that. Along these lines is the Spot Editor which allows you to set up a spot in the world and then upload points for it so that other players can use it! That’s pretty sweet.
What else is improved? Not a lot really. Skate 2 is basically the first Skate game with the few additions that I’ve mentioned. There is a graphics creator where you can create your own images and then upload them on the web and download them through the PS3′s online system. Speaking of online, the online play of Skate 2 is exactly the same as before.
One last improvement is that creating a video has had two new camera angles added that will help you make some sweet vids.
All in all, if you liked the first Skate and are board with it and looking for something new in the skating world than you should pick up Skate 2. The few moves that were added in and the ability to set up your own spots makes the game worth picking up.
