Critical Hit - The International
The International
Here’s a scary movie for me. I’m not sure if you have been paying attention to what’s going on in the world with the economy and the banks but this film is a scary look at how one bank could take control of a ton of the world. How? Well…
The IBBC, International Bank of Business and Credit, are slowly taking over the world by controlling money and having a deal with China who can produce the cheapest small fire arms in the world. 90% of the world’s conflicts use small fire arms because of the poverty in those countries. The IBBC funds not only guns for the conflicts but any money needed so that they can control the debt from that country.
The film, Clive Owen plays Louis Salinger, an Interpol agent who’s been working to take down the IBBC for years. Naomi Watts plays Eleanor Whitman who is an American agent assisting him. Together, they realize that the bank is impossible to take down through a series of events in the film. At every step, their investigation is hindered by someone higher up in the law or their suspects are killed off by the bank. It becomes apparent that the corruption is everywhere.
The ending is then the scary part because it simply says that no matter what happens, the bank is probably going to survive somehow. It really is an anti-climactic film but at the same time, realistic. The film is too realistic because I already believe things of this nature to be happening. Governments and banks working together to control the debt of everyone they can find so that they can control their life? Yeah, that’s not far off folks.
This movie suffers from being too realistic I think. Coming out now is maybe a bit too scary for us all to go deal with for 2 hours when we deal with the economy the rest of the day. The acting isn’t bad at all. Maybe if the International came out about 5 years ago it would have been an intriguing thriller but now, it’s just too close to home for my tastes.
Until next time, be wary of those loans and watch out for those Critical Hits!
