Race to Witch Mountain

Witch Mountain is a flick for the kids really. Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) picks up two aliens without realizing it. Sara (AnnaSophia Robb) and Seth (Alexander Ludwig) have crashed on Earth to retrieve some data for their home planet. They are chased by a Bounty Hunter for their troubles. Bruno ends up helping the kids when he thinks they are in trouble. When he learns they are aliens he takes them to a former fair he had early that day, Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino). Together, they adventure to Witch Mountain to gain the kids ship back.

The plot is simple and so is the film. Not much thought is required for this one. The Rock’s (yes, as a wrestling fan, I’m not calling him Dwayne) roll could have been played by nearly anyone. His action talent is wasted in this film and so is his acting talent. For that matter I’ve seen Gugino in much better roles as well. Their acting was great for the film but the roles were not complex at all. The two kids, Robb and Ludwig, had more depth and that was only because they had to act like they were aliens and not humans.

All in all there was a lot of CGI in Witch Mountain and almost no plot plus the ending is not satisfying and very open ended because clearly, the Disney cash cow wants to make a franchise of a film that is just meh. So I’m not recommending this one unless you have kids who are bored and need a renter one day. Even fans of the Rock will be disappointed because he doesn’t bring anything new to this film. Sorry folks but that’s just the way it is.
