Critical Hit - Duplicity
This ain’t just a love story about two spies, folks. Duplicity is a story of corporate warfare between two huge companies and you’re going to love it.
Duplicity is a wonderfully done story of backstabbing. Claire Stenwick (Julia Roberts) and Ray Koval (Clive Owen) both work for each company in their intelligence department. The heads of the companies, Howard Tully (Tom Wilkinson) and Richard Garsik (Paul Giamatti) hate one another and want to trash their one major competitor in the soap business, each other. Yes, the companies both make lotions, creams and soaps. This adds to the hilarity. Keep in mind that while the entire story is serious business dealing with huge money, it’s a very hilarious take on things.
The beginning credits involve an entire scene in slow motion where the heads of the two huge companies meet and fight like girls. It was awesome. I laughed a lot.
The acting in the movie was top notch. Roberts was as good as I’ve ever seen her and I’m not a fan of hers at all but this movie has made me respect her comeback. Owen is good in all he does but he brings a much needed subtle humor to Duplicity. His chemistry with Roberts is really good too. Wilkinson and Giamatti are the wildcards. These two make Duplicity a great movie. I’ve never seen a bad movie with either of these guys in it. They know how to command a character and these two characters were funny.

I can’t really say much more about the movie without ruining it all. It’s really worth watching if you know very little about it. C’mon, you read my reviews, haven’t you gone out and seen at least one on my recommendation yet? If you have, then you trust me and should see Duplicity and if you haven’t yet, then get to it! You won’t be disappointed by this film.

Honestly, I understand how you feel. A story about two spies who fall in love isn’t interesting enough for me to go see. I heard some good things that this film was more than that from my cousins and I’m glad I went. Thanks for the recommendation! So now, I pass that same recommendation on. Duplicity is not a love story but rather a backstabbing story of hilarity.
Until next time, enjoy some frozen pizza and watch out for those Critical Hits!
