Back in 2002, Mafia was released for the PC, PS2 and XBox and was certainly a hit, but never as big a hit as many people expected it to be. The original Mafia title then went on to win various awards, but it still for some reason was overlooked by many gamers - perhaps because of comparisons with GTA which few expect to be matched. Can Mafia II grab the attention it’s predecessor failed to?

We certainly hope so, because the original Mafia game was fantastic and this promises to be so, so much more than that - and although it is a slightly different kind of game to Grand Theft Auto IV, the level of detail that Mafia II boasts and the range of gameplay experiences built into this one title is impressive to say the least.

The original Mafia was first released on PC, before being ported to the PS2 and Xbox. The ported versions in that case did not match up to the PC game, but to lay any fears of a repeat this time round to rest Mafia II is being developed step by step simultaneously for PC, XBox 360 and PS3, so Mafia II will give you the exact same experience whichever platform you decide to play it on.

The events in Mafia II will take place between the 1940s and 1950s, with guns and vehicles from that period in time included in the game as you would expect. This makes for a more intense game than the original because of the new technologies discovered since the 1920s which was when the original game was set.

Mafia II will be released in July 2009, with a concrete date expected to be set very soon. Stay with Cheat Masters for that, and any other developments for Mafia II as they happen!
