We have all seen those karaoke titles that have smothered the shelves in the local game stores in recent years, and most of us have had a go on at least one of them but aren’t they all the same? Not anymore! Enter Def Jam Rapstar.

Whilst similar karaoke powered titles such as SingStar and Lips are great fun and cover loads of classic karaoke hits, no title until now has predominantly featured hip-hop music. Def Jam Rapstar does exactly that and boasts loads of popular hip-hop tracks from artists such as Rihanna, The Notorious BIG, Pete Rock, Young Jeezy and TI.

Def Jam Rapstar is by no means an ordinary karaoke title though which stops at ranking your singing pitch against those in the real-life version of the song you’re singing along to – no way! Def Jam Rapstar promises to be backed by a wealth of community features which all players can take advantage of by getting online.

The community features include the ability to upload videos you have created – the game does come with a mic and camera by the way – to share with the world and these can then be ranked as you are able to take part in the worldwide leaderboard system. Everyone, including you can simply browse videos online or get involved by commenting on them, tagging them, rating them and more. You can also form crews with friends, neighbours or even your grand-parents if you wish to take into co-operative battle gaming with you.

Def Jam Rapstar is scheduled for release on the XBox 360, PS3 and Wii towards the end of the year.
