The original Dead Space title made more of an impact on the survival-horror video game genre than anything else in recent memory, but what can we expect from a prequal which has been transported to the Nintendo Wii? We’ll soon find out with Dead Space Extraction.

Dead Space Extraction looks to introduce you to the events which preceeded those in Dead Space - at the point where an infection created the sickeningly deformed Necromorphs and other mutated creatures Dead Space fans will know and love - okay, maybe not love.

Instead of the traditional free roaming survival-horror game style, Dead Space Extraction instead plays much more like an arcade shooter with apparantly countless numbers of enemies approaching you from a first-person point of view, with your task being to take them out before they get you first. However, developers Visceral Games have attempted to make it much more than that, by bringing along some of the features that made Dead Space such a huge success.

For example many of the weapons from Dead Space make a return including the ripper, flame-thrower, line gun and plasma cutter and also effective use of them will once again perform horrific dismemberment on your victims. Perhaps the most important feature they have attempted to re-create once again is the athmosphere in which the entire game takes place - and the early signs suggest Dead Space Extraction will be another spine-tingling experience from the outset.

Dead Space Extraction appears on the Nintendo Wii only, and is due for release on October 2nd 2009.
