Pro Evolution Soccer 2010

With the recent success of FIFA 2010 from EA, it’s time to turn our attention to Konami’s entry into this years battle of the soccer titles! Pro Evolution Soccer has dominated for years in terms of lifelike gameplay, but does Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 continue that trend?
In our view the short answer would be yes, but the gap in overall quality between FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer has certainly been cut this year as FIFA 10 made vast improvements over FIFA 09, whilst Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is only improved in a few minor ways on it’s predecessor - though these minor improvements are just enough to keep Pro Evolution Soccer sitting proudly in top spot.

Once again Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 does not have all the glorified official licenses that FIFA boasts, but much like the great soccer teams, it delivers where it counts - on the pitch. The overall speed of the game has been reduced a bit to make the game feel more like a simulation, which in turn increases the need to play with a little more technical understanding of the sport to achieve big results, which is a great step forwards - gone are the days of nine-nil scorelines.
Perhaps the most successful new feature in the game is the new Community mode, which is essentially a tool for those who hold regular competitions between friends. It allows you to have upto 32 friends involved in cups, leagues and custom competitions - not necessarily all at once - and event by event the results, stats and everything else you could possibly want to keep track of is recorded for you. Fantastic if you’re constantly ranked top amongst your buddies, not so great if you’re rock bottom!
Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 looks, feels and sounds better than the 2009 version of the game thanks to improved graphics, improved gameplay and physics and also licensed music tracks at long last from the likes of the Sterophonics. If you are torn between Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 and FIFA 10, this one just shades it for us! Konami will have to up their game next year though if things are to stay that way.
