Assassins Creed II

Without a doubt, the best game of 2009 is now with us in the shape of Assassins Creed II. It’s out with the notorious Desmond and in with Ezio, a guy just as cool, just as cold-blooded and just a little more capable as a deadly assassin.

As with our previous articles on Assassins Creed II we will stay clear of any spoilers, because if there was ever a videogame that truly has to be discovered on your own to really appreciate how good it is, this is that videogame! Nothing you read online here or anywhere else will do this game justice, there just aren’t enough superlatives.

Demond from the original Assassins Creed title does feature once again in Assassins Creed II, and ties into the storyline in a very surprising way. However taking the role of your new character Ezio, somehow manages to surpass the enjoyability of playing in every aspect of the game.

The free-to-explore worlds have been enhanced too, which we didn’t think was possible given the stunning environments in the original game. The settings this time around are Venice and Florence in the 15th and 16th century. The cities are huge, packed with detail and have an athmosphere to rival life itself – everything contributes to an amazing gaming experience. We would go as far to say the game world in Assassins Creed II is quite simply the best ever created in a game, and it will take some matching, nevermind beating.

The animation, though apparantly flawless in the original has been smoothed out even further this time around and not just for Ezio, but the citizens going about their daily business, the guards and even vehicles and animals which popup – such attention to detail is rarely seen in a game, and again it’s something you just have to see for yourself to truly appreciate.

Assassins Creed II once again boasts a daunting soundtrack which fits the game perfectly throughout, and small sound effects that accompany almost everything you or other characters do within the game add so much, but nothing more so than the voice acting which is brilliant throughout.

All that’s left to say is Assassins Creed II is out right now, and you should be on your way to your local gamestore right now to pick it up and if they’re closed, grab your credit card and buy it online because you simply must own this game – and you must play it from start to finish, the ending is one you will never forget!
