I’m no Star Trek fan personally, but I know millions of you out there are so Star Trek Online obviously warrants a look, and I must admit even a sci-fi-phobic such as myself has to be impressed with what has been revealed so far.

As the name clearly suggests, Star Trek Online is a massive online multiplayer game based on the phenomenally successful Star Trek franchise, and is an official licensed product by CBS. Bare in mind this is an early look at the title, so many details are as yet unconfirmed but we will of course keep you updated as the February 2010 release dates draws closer.

The setting for Star Trek Online is the year 2409, around thirty years after the events that took place in Star Trek Nemesis – as a Star Trek fan I hope you know more than me of what exactly those events were but what I do know is that the Federation and the Klingon Empire are at war – not great right?

Star Trek Online puts you in the role of the captain of either a Federation or Klingon Defence Force vessel, are you’re accompanied by three bridge officers. As you and your ship work your way through space you will encounter all kinds of adversaries and be given various oportunities and missions with which to test your skills – many are likely to involve going up against, or co-operating with captains of other ships.

Star Trek Online is scheduled for release on PC and XBox 360 in February 2010.
