The Darkside Chronicles

Most of you will have played some part in the Resident Evil series during your years as a gamer, and the follow on from the Umbrella Chronicles is making it’s way onto Nintendo Wii. Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles hits stores next week.

Whether you are a die-hard fan of the Resident Evil series, or a complete newcomer to it Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will make sense to you before long, as it does a great job of tying events from the past into this new title via some playable flashbacks to parts of Resident Evil 2, and Code Veronica, such as how Claire Redford escaped that dispicable detention centre.

Having said that, making sense of present events is not really necessary to succeed in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles as it is nothing more than an on-rails first person shooter, so you have very few decisions to make throughout the game which will effect your progress and simply follow the pre-set route and attempt to shoot your way through the waves of zombies and other creatures that are blocking your path.

The first person perspective does a good job of raising tension levels at times, but in most cases it’s unrealistic movements serve only to raise your frustration as it makes accurate shooting an impossibility, and forces you to resort to button-mashing tactics to take out whatever’s in your path by wasting bullet after bullet.

If you want a shooting game for the Nintendo Wii, we would suggest looking elsewhere. This is only a worthwhile game if you’re a series fan and don’t want to miss any part of the legendary storylines.
