Skate 3

Darkslides and Underflips make their debut in the Skate series in the third instalment of EA’s increasingly popular brand, amongst other improvements which look set to push the popularity of Skate 3 to levels its predecessors failed to reach.

The original Skate, and Skate 2 were not flops by any means and marked a very welcome return of the true skateboarding simulator after something of a baron spell from the once enormous Tony Hawk titles, but each title left plenty of room for improvement and never really pushed any boundaries – they somehow felt a touch unfinished, despite being very enjoyable to play – Skate 3 is looking to put that right.

Skate 3 introduces a new storyline from the outset as you are no longer a rookie skater out to show the world what you can do, but you’re now a highly reknowned skater who instead is now looking to create a brand and take it to the masses on the streets – with a little help from some friends.

The logo creating tools introduced in Skate 2 are back, and improved, and you must create your brand and recruit three other skaters – this applies in both online and offline modes, with the obvious difference of offline colleagues being computer controlled and online colleagues being real-life gamers somewhere else in the world! Together you must hit the streets, brand on show, and spread awareness by completing various challenges that you’re set.

You can also take your team into some brand new online competitive game modes which look great fun – the most enjoyable is likely to be a mode known as one-up, which gives your team and a rival team a time limit within which you must out-do the other teams points tally – simply but great fun, and with the catch of one guy bailing costing you your round – now that’s pressure!

Skate 3 is scheduled for release in May 2010 and will appear on the Playstation 3 and XBox 360. Stick with Cheat Masters for more on Skate 3 as it happens.
