Dantes Inferno

Dante Alighieri, the lead character in EA’s hugely promising brawl-em-up title is what we action game junkies would simply call a Badass! That will undoubtedly help him as he aims to navigate the nine circles of hell in Dante’s Inferno.

You may be thinking to yourself, where have I heard that title before? The answer is it’s a very famous piece of literature – a poem – written by the lead character himself, Dante Alighieri. Though the poet certainly did not possess the specific abilities that his in-game representation does, he was without question a very talented guy.

Turning a famous poem into a video game is no easy challenge though, but developers Visceral Games appear to be doing a fantastic job of it so far with Dante’s Inferno. The game, much like the poem takes you through the nine circles of hell – each circle being inhabited by an intriguing array of mutated enemies, some of which are based on depicatations from the poem.

One major feature of the Dante’s Inferno game is the prescence of some very large, very weird and very nasty bosses which you will encounter as you approach the end of each of hell’s circles – a feature not many games tend to use nowadays, and it’s a welcome return in our view. Defeating each boss will take a combination of tactical thinking and smart attack moves, and of course timing is essential as always in these kind of battles.

Graphically Dante’s Inferno paints a very vivid picture of one mans imagination of the underworld, very different to the traditional lava flowing rivers and devils that we’re used to. You can’t fail to be impressed by the developers achievements so far – here’s hoping the gameplay lives up to the promise Dante’s Inferno has already shown!
