The Championship Manager series has been around for many years, but these days its not quite the genre-topping name we all used to love. Championship Manager 2010 has had a dedicated development team behind it all year, but their extra efforts appear to be unrewarded.
From the very beginning you can see that the developers have put in great amounts of work when it comes to improving the game over its previous incarnations, whether it’s the improved animation of the interface or the clearer-sharper menu system. Though these are improvements, they don’t make Championship Manager 2010 a fantastic game on their own.

What everybody was looking forward to, the introduction of a “revolutionary” new 3D match engine, has also failed to make the game great and instead it simply underlines further problems. They may be minor, but there are so many of them that combined they create a very frustrating game experience with very few moments of enjoyment that we all used to get from Championship Manager titles.
If a game was about detail alone, Championship Manager 2010 would surely be up there with the greats. Player and team statistics are all there and bigger than ever, and you have the ability to do more as a manager than ever before in the series, but the execution of it all just is not quite right for one reason or another and it feels like an unfinished game which has been rushed out for release.
Championship Manager 2010 has improved over the last version, but it’s still lagging behind the rival Football Manager series. There is still hope for Championship Manager, but it may take another complete re-vamp from the developmenet team – perhaps the end is nigh for this once classic series.
