Most gamers of a reasonable age will remember the classic Amiga title, Alien Breed, and all of it’s shortcomings appeared to have been addressed ahead of the publishing of Alien Breed Evolution – a very long awaited follow up title.
The developers behind the original game, Team 17, have brought the classic back to life for the benefit of the modern gamer – but whether enough has been made of Alien Breed: Evolution to generate enough interest in the crowded shooter genre to achieve good sales figures remains to be seen, as does the overall opinion of it that will follow in the coming weeks.

ALIEN BREED EVOLUTION TRAILER |
Much like the original, things are pretty basic in Alien Breed: Evolution. You find yourself alone on a bizarre alien craft in outer space, and must complete various goals to progress through the game. Unfortunately the only way you seem to progress is by shooting – there is very little else to Alien Breed: Evolution.
The lack of a real in-depth storyline doesn’t take away the retro novelty factor, as although this is far more modern than the original it does manage to retain the feeling of a classic top-down shooter. But with that retro feeling retained comes the likely downfall of Alien Breed: Evolution in the eyes of most gamers – no replayability, and a quickly tiring experience. It is enjoyable for a short period of time, but don’t expect it to keep you going for too long.
