Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar Games reputation is second to none when it comes to sandbox games, thanks largely to the huge success of their GTA titles. Now imagine GTA in the old wild west, and what you have is Red Dead Redemption – coming to a PS3 and XBox 360 near you!

The early 1900′s is the setting for Red Dead Redemption and you, John Marston, are a changed man. No longer considered a fellon, you live happily on a recently purchased farm with your family – but things soon change. The Bureau, an early days rendition of today’s FBI, come to you with demands that you work for them. Why you? Let’s just say you have a history!

To progress into the story any further would be spoiling the fun for you, but although the storyline is a great one, Red Dead Redemption has so much more on the side to offer you. The earlier comparison with the GTA games was no mistake, it feels very similar in a lot of ways from the character controls and animation through to the environments that surround you and the kinds of tasks you are faced with.

Needless to say you have slightly less powerful weapons at your disposal in Red Dead Redemption – no rocket launchers we’re afraid to say, but you do have a variation of pistols and pimped up rifles. Another obvious emission is that of cars – but their counterpart from the time is there in abudance – that of course is the horse! Your trusty steed is never too far away.

The sense of freedom you are given is a breath of fresh air from the very outset of Red Dead Redemption. You’ve been given freedom in games before, but not in an environment like this which has been created with great attention to detail. Dust kicks up as you walk, echos sound as you shoot, it’s fantastic. Whether you are a wild-west fan or not, you will find something to love about Red Dead Redemption, buy it!

It’s released on April 27th 2010 for Playstation 3 and XBox 360.
