The Prince of Persia franchise makes it’s comeback with Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, which will show it’s face in stores in May this year – roughly around the same time the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie is expected to be released.

Despite the similar release dates, the two projects are entirely seporate. The events in this latest game are not inspired by the movie, or vice-versa, so you will not be seeing or hearing any stars from the film as you play through the game. Though you will find yourself within the same environments, as Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is set during the seven year gap between what we’ve seen in The Sands of Time game, and Warrior Within.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will go some way to explaining how the adorably naive prince we played in The Sands of Time grows into the ruthless character we’ve seen in Warrior Within, and does so by exploring in detail one specific adventure the prince has had the fortune to experience.

From the cinematic sequence at the start of the game you are left with no illusions of the action that lye ahead, as you glide over a city which is currently under the power of your older brother – but has become torn by combat. This sets the scene perfectly, and the game soon sucks you in and before you know it hours will have passed. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands promises to be one of those games that you will continue playing, no matter how tired you’re feeling, or no matter how late you are for work!

One particular impressive aspect of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is the visual recreation of the sandy world that surrounds you. Sand has often been considered as difficult, if not more difficult to realistically portay in video games but Ubisoft Montreal have pulled out all the stops, as it looks almost good enough to catch a tan on!

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will be released for PC, Playstation 3, XBox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP on May 18th 2010.
