Publishers Square Enix can do not wrong right now, with recently released titles Just Cause 2, Supreme Commander 2 and Final Fantasy XIII dominating sales charts across the globe. Next up is Nier, an action role-playing game which promises more than a button-mashing experience.
We don’t want to spoil things so we’ll keep details somewhat vague without wasting your time. Nier puts you in the role of a father, named Nier, who sets out to find a cure for his daughter who has contracted an illness called the Black Scrawl. We’ll let you discover how she contracted it and what you as Nier have to do to get her back to normality.

NIER TRAILER |
Though you have one clear ultimate goal in Nier, you will encounter sub-plots time and time again as you progress through the game. Some of these will be worth focusing on, whilst others will seem to be a complete waste of time but most add something in the way of variety if nothing else.
In terms of gameplay, Nier seems to be very similar to Bayonetta which was released a couple of months back and proved very successful – some even considering it the best action title ever created! Unfortunately we get the impression that Nier won’t quite live up to such a standard, but it looks set to deliver an experience worth sitting through – particularly if you’re a fan of action or role playing games in general.
The storyline is deep, that we can promise you, but it’s impossible to let you know how deep without spoiling things. You will encounter twists and turns on a regular basis, and the game draws you into it’s gloomy athmospheric environment to ensure you don’t miss a thing. The combat is often fast paced which isn’t all that common in role playing titles, but Nier has struck a happy medium between speedy and over-the-top slow!
Nier is released for the XBox 360 and Playstation 3 on April 27th 2010.
