Alma, the mysterious female character behind the FEAR series makes her come back – or does she? FEAR 3 see’s the franchise take a slightly new direction, and we think it’s for the better.

Out are Monolith, developers of the previous two games in the series, and in steps 1 Day Studios who have now assumed full development responsibility for FEAR 3 which is as the title suggests the third game in the series. Thankfully they promise to stick pretty close to the games’ foundations, so fans should be familiar with the new output when it arrives.

Turning a co-operative game into an intriguing and spooky tri-qual is the task 1 Day Studios have been faced with, and they appear to be meeting the challenge head on judging by what we have seen of FEAR 3 so far.

You can play as either Point Man or Paxton Fettel who were both introduced to us in the very first FEAR title. They are brothers with history – Man killed Fettel in the original as he was ordered to do so, Fettel was using his unique telekenetic powers to murder innocent people. But now Fettel returns as a ghost seeking the help of his brother and killer, Man, in order to find Alma. Why exactly he wants to find Alma we do not know at this stage, but we can’t wait to find out!

Needless to say playing as Fettel and Man in FEAR 3 will prove to be two very different experiences. Playing as Man will feel much like your typical first person shooter, complete with military standard issue weapons and abilities – but playing as Fettel not only gives you a unique and seedy view (red tinted vision), but also paranormal powers but also the ability to see certain things that Point Man can not see. This will force you to work with your ‘colleague’ to get the most from the game.

FEAR 3 is scheduled for release on PC, Playstation 3 and XBox 360 but no release date has been confirmed.
