A few weeks back we discussed Hulu quite a bit in our in-depth feature about how we watch videos. At the time it was written, the speculation was that the popular video service Hulu would be coming exclusively to XBox Live. Today that changed when we found out the Hulu is not only coming to XBox Live but also the PlayStation Network.
Earlier today Hulu announced “Hulu Plus”, a service that will allow users to watch entire seasons of television shows along with movies and other content for a fee (currently users may watch five of the most up to date episodes of a series). Hulu Plus will be priced at $10.00 and while you’d think that your $10.00 subscription would get rid of those annoying ads during shows that’s apparently not going to happen. Netflix is already available for cheaper on XBox 360, PS3 and Nintendo Wii and while the streaming service is certainly a nice alternative to the insanely over-priced cable companies, one would think that they’re going to have to offer more to get people to fork over money for a service that has been free for quite awhile now. We should also mention that the original Hulu will still remain and (at least for now) feature five of the current episodes of many of your favorite shows. But you will only be able to access Hulu Plus via XBL and PSN with Hulu Plus. For the 360 version of the service, you’re also going to have to already have an XBox Live Gold Membership. The specifics for PS3 were still unclear as of press time.
One thing is for certain, the over priced Cable companies who have been ripping people off for so many years time is quickly coming to an end. Gamers, television and movie buffs alike are all finding cheaper, better alternatives to suit their entertainment needs. Hulu Plus will hit PS3 “soon” (most likely sometime in July) and the XBL sometime early 2011.
