The name is a working title but Forza Motorsport 4, or whatever it eventually ends up being called, looks set to revolutionize the racing simulation genre thanks to some innovative use of the new XBox 360 Kinect system.
If you missed the recent E3 event entirely and haven’t heard of Kinect, it’s the new motion sensing technology from Microsoft for the XBox 360, but it’s certainly not just a clone of the technology used for the Nintendo Wii. But how will Kinect bring something worthwhile to a game like Forza Motorsport 4?

Complete details of how exactly Forza Motorsport 4 will utilize Kinect are yet to be confirmed, but we have seen a few things in action which we can assume are set in stone and will definitely feature in the finished title when it arrives some time in 2011.
A tech demo of Forza Motorsport 3 working with Kinect emerged from E3, in which one of the demonstrators was simply turning their hands as if they were holding a steering wheel and the car responding in-game to an impressive degree of accuracy. Also we’ve seen a point of view look at one of the in-game cars – a Ferrari – which allows you to walk around the car simply by moving around yourself. Go closer to your screen and you move closer to the car, you really can inspect every detail of the car from any angle you wish – incredible!
We are sure to find some more interesting uses of Kinect when Forza Motorsport 4 develops further over the coming months, but we don’t think it’s too early to say this looks probably more impressive than anything Gran Turismo have thrown out there and it’s likely to raise the bar for the entire genre when it’s release arrives.
The game will be exclusive to XBox 360, and will be released some time next year. We’ll bring you a confirmed release date when it exists!

Erm… no it wasn’t. They showed a tech demo for Forza Motorsport 3 WITH Kinectic controls intergrated. They also announced this would be released in a downloadable patch to add the ability to the existing game. There was no mention of a forth game.
