Rumors had been flying around for awhile that Capcom and Namco were cooking something good. Now at Comic-Con 2010 they’ve made it official with Street Fighter X Tekken (that’s Street Fighter “cross” Tekken). Be sure to check out the official trailer and gameplay footage…

At the Street Fighter Mania panel, Yoshinori Ono (Street Fighter IV producer) took the stage only to be “interrupted” by Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada. A trailer was shown much to the delight of the crowd. “A new era in fighting games has begun” Ono stated. But that wasn’t all Capcom and Namco had in store for the crowd. After a bit of back and forth jabbing between the highly regarded producers (Ono said that true fans would pick Street Fighter characters) Ono held a blu-ray in his hand and a playable demo of the game was shown with the producers squaring off. In the demo, Ryu and Chun-Li took on Kazuya and Nina Williams.

Besides the demo and trailer not much is known yet but so far Ryu, Kazuya, Chun-Li Nina and Dan are confirmed. We also know the game will feature two-on-two tag-team fighting similar to games such as Marvel vs. Capcom. As we previously reported, it does seem that there will be two different versions of the game one running on the Super Street Fighter IV engine and the other powered by the Tekken 6 engine. Street Fighter X Tekken will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 but no release date was given. No doubt we’ll have much more on this in the coming months.
