As I previously stated, in this article, a review of this game MUST be done, so here I am, giving you spoiled children the inside out of this great caped crusader title.
Let’s get some things straight first…this is not Arkham Assylum, it’s actually more on the side of Lego Batman when it comes to mechanics and audience.
Now that you’re “warned” about the kind of game this is, let’s proceed!
I won’t make this review a really long one, so don’t worry, but in order to speak of this game I must do a small resume of the TV series Batman the Brave and the Bold.
The series it’s based on the DC-TEAM UPS line of comics, it’s basically the Bat joining forces with other DC Heroes… the thing is… that instead favoring the heavy weights of DC like Superman and Wonder Woman, the show uses characters like Plastic Man, Red Tornado, etc.
I mentioned it before, but I will say it again, just in case. This is NOT the Dark Knight, this batman (it’s naive, it’s clever yes, but it laughs! yes! in some episodes we can actually see the greatest detective of all times laugh!) it’s more like the Adam Wests’s version of the caped crusader.
The game obeys this premise. It’s naive, it’s funny, the dialogs are well written and for example, in the tutorial given by the joker, you can read phrases like: “Tutorial traps!?!? YOU SICK EDUCATOR!!” coming from the Bat’s mouth to the evil evil joker! It’s actually really funny ;D
The gameplay follows the Megaman structure. Go to a map, get through, kill the boss (1 or 2) gain new skill, rinse and repeat.
Worked for Megaman, works for the bat. Sadly the story isn’t that well told. Well actually, it’s like no story at all (maybe that’s because the TV show features all Self-Conclusive episodes, each week a new adventure that ends right there). The game takes us to different scenarios, where we meet with particular DC characters (Aquaman for example) and they help us to achieve our goal, meaning, kicking some villain’s ass. The gameplay varies from one character to another and each one has different abilities and skills. For example plastic man can jump really high and break walls, Aquaman swims and control fishes…well you see where I’m going. This skills adds a new depth to the game, but…still, it’s really REALLY easy and simple.

Graphics and Sound, well, graphics are nice, the sprites are beautiful really and the character voices when they come in and out are the ones used in the TV show, so that’s ok. There are some GREAT scenarios, and some of the bosses are really looking well for a DS game, still the game doesn’t take the console as far as she can go.
All in all this is a GOOD BATMAN GAME, it’s funny, it’s short, it has powerups, you can lvl up things, gain new powers, the controls are great, the touch screen works for the game, what more can I say? Oh yeah, if you have a son, or little brother/sister he/she will LOVE this game, it’s funny, fast paced, full of enemies and short. If you don’t have a youngling around, what the hell… do as I did, and play it yourself! You’ll have a blast!
