The PS3 is big news for many industries and Sony Entertainment Online is expecting it to bring in 50% or so of their revenue. As we see PS3 sales continuing to grow, we also see Sony Online Entertainment looking for a larger portion of their total business to be from PS3 owners. If it looks like more and more games for the PS3 are by Sony Entertainment Online, then you’d be correct.

In fact, SOE President John Smedley thinks the PS3 will equate to a whopping half of their business. That’s right, 50% of SOE’s business is expected to come from the PS3. Smedley told GameDaily, “I think PS3 will be close to half our business. There’s an audience now waiting for online games on the PS3. I believe PSN has over 15 million users today. It’s growing so quickly, we see a great user base potential there.”

When the PS3 was first released, there was a lot of talk of how it was like a computer. Sony also made comparisons to PS3 gamers and the same people who play MMOs. Integrated Blu-Ray was also pushed as a feature of the new PS3.

Now Sony will be pushing PS3 titles hard, especially with the holiday season fast approaching. This could mean big business for SOE if they continue to provide the gamers with quality, interesting titles.
