Every time a Star Wars game pops up I can’t help to feel excited. For me it’s the biggest franchise ever and I’m a huge nerd when it comes to light sabers and the understanding of the force. Today it’s finally the turn of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (PC VERSION)
The game begins where the first one ended (thankfully no weird flashback or prequels or things like that). We see a pretty angry Darth Vader walking into a room and taking Starkiller (the dude from the first one) from an isolation chamber, that’s where we paused the thing and go, wait, he’s alive? Well yeah, apparently and as we saw it in the end of the first game, they used the cloning process in Kamino to create clones of Starkiller, that’s some serious sh%$ i know. Anyway apparently ,and to differ from the clones of Jango Fett, this Starkiller wannabes remember parts of his original predecessor life. According to Darth Vader this makes them unstable, emotion driven and, to use his own words, Useless. Long story short the dude breaks the holding cell and makes a run for it, aaaaand the game begins.
GRAPHICS:
Oh boy, this must be one of the prettiest games I have ever played in PC. The climate effects such as rain, sun shafts, reflections caused by the water ponds and things like that are simply amazing. The game is not such a resource hogger nor a bugged pack like the first one was, I must say I was happy to find out that my ATi card had no trouble running it. Especially when the first one gave me several headaches to be playable. Anyway the game looks awesome, the enemies are huge, the bosses are really well designed, the environments pretty and the lightsaber feels deadlier than ever.
Score: 9

Ok this part of the game for example, was a total hoot

SOUND:
Thankfully the voice acting is the same that we heard in the first game. While not perfect at least is not horrible and they used the old rule: If it ain’t broken don’t fix it. The usual ambience sound is regular and the music does change to anticipate action packed sequences. The lightsaber swings sound exactly like they should and the Tie-Fighters, Blasters and clones sound great, there’s not a lot to say here about the sound actually, except it does it’s job correctly.

STORY:
I gave you a little preview at the beginning of this post, but all right, this time around we are looking our long last love, the pilot chic from the first game. I won’t say that’s a lame excuse for a game since it’s been over-used starting with Super Mario Bros. But the thing is, it’s not Star Wars worthy at all. I know, if you think about it a big part of the movies is about going around lightsabering the crap out of people and looking for a princess but c’mon, make it at least force related. The game is AWFULLY short and it ends right when you are watching a cinematic and start repeating “Please don’t end now, please don’t end now, please don’t…oh crap”. There’s definitively a sequel coming (you know how everything now a days is made in Trilogy format so. TA-DA!

GAMEPLAY:
Take Kratos, replace the daggers for lighstabers and you’re good to go. The game looks like a cheap ripoff sometimes. It takes elements from many other already acclaimed games that managed to blow peoples minds with combo systems and used them with a Jedi skin. This is not a bad thing as long as you’re looking to improve something that has already been created, but it’s not the case here. The game basically emulates those combos and things so we’re going to see a Starkiller flying in the air, popping up enemies, chaining them up, making them bounce back into the floor, force push, bla bla. It’s not all bad, at the beginning it’s pretty great actually. But after a while you start wondering, it’s way to great. The game gets too easy too quick, master the right powers, or screw up your build. Who cares? You’ll be slicing, mind controlling and force pushing clones (or any other generic dudes) around by the hundreds. Disappointed with this side of the game, I am.
Score: 6

So let’s get this over with, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 features some fast paced action that get’s a little too repetitive too fast. It delivers practically nothing to the Star Wars universe in terms of story and the amount of worlds and cultures we visit during the game are purely eye candy since we can’t talk or find out anything about no one. A disappointing title that created quite the hype and ended up being just God of War ripoff.
Overall Score: 6 (Good)
