Mass Effect 2 Normandy Side Quests [Guide]

In this edition were gonna go through all the side quests you will receive on board your faithful ship the Normandy.

Return to Top FBA Couplings

After you first board your new Normandy ship, you’ll have the freedom to explore all four levels of the craft at will. If you head to the lowest floor, the engineering area, you’ll find a couple of eager engineers that are ex-Alliance officers. These two are known as Engineers Donnelly and Daniels, and they’ve been working together for quite some time. As you speak with them both, you’ll learn that they know each other quite well, work together well, and have quite the history with one another. But there’s a problem. The FBA Couplings they’re dealing with require calibration too often, while replacement couplings will make their lives much easier. If you agree to help them out, you’ll be able to undertake this side quest.

The FBA Couplings aren’t as difficult to track down as you might think, though knowing exactly where to go to look for them probably wouldn’t hurt. Once you head to Omega to track down one of two characters you’re looking for there, you’ll run into a store called Kenn’s Salvage, which is located on the eastern edge of the map. Kenn is a Quarian desperately trying to get off of Omega (to check out this guide head over to the Omega Side Quests), and he’s so desperate that he salvages whatever he can in order to sell. Amongst the items he wants to get rid of, if you check his kiosk, are FBA Couplings. Purchase them for the asking price, and then head back to the Normandy to hand them off.

Once back on the Normandy, head back down to the engineering wing and seek out the two engineers. They’ll be thrilled as you hand off these new couplings, which cut back recalibration time from everyday to every week a good deal indeed, one that will open them up to be able to do other things. Excited, Donnelly will invite you to play a card game, which you can accept or decline. There’s no reason not to accept, however, since you can earn credits by playing, in addition to Paragon or Renegade points by telling the players to go easy on you because you’re new to the game, or easy on you because you’re the boss. After the card game (or if you decide not to do it at all), the side quest will end.

Return to Top Serrice Ice Brandy

When you first arrive on your brand new Normandy ship, you’ll be free to explore, to meet your crew and get used to your new surroundings. Amongst the people you will meet will be a familiar face, a human female by the name of Dr. Chakwas. Dr. Chakwas is an Alliance veteran, and served with you on board the old Normandy. When you speak with her, you can ask her if she has everything she needs. She won’t complain at all, though she’ll remark that she could use her liquor of choice for the voyage ahead, a brandy known as Serrice Ice Brandy. Agree to pick it up for her if you see it, and you’ll acquire this side quest.

Some people will say the Brady is on the Citadel but its much easier than that. It can be found on the first place you go Omega in the Afterlife bar in the lower area where you will do the Bartender Side Quest. Return to the ship to give the good doctor her Brandy. After thanking you and vowing to not let this bottle go to waste like she did the last one, she’ll offer to open up the bottle and have a drink with you. You can turn her down if you want, but there’s really no reason to. Have a conversation with her, drink some liquor, and at the end, make a toast. After this scene concludes, you’ll see Dr. Chakwas in a drinking-induced coma on a nearby bed, at which point this side quest will have come to a rather humorous and amusing end. Humorously, when you visit her later on, she’ll apologize for getting drunk with you. Don’t be sorry, Dr. Chakwas!

Return to Top Special Ingredients

To acquire the Normandy: Special Ingredients side quest, you must speak with a man named Mess Sergeant Gardner, who can be found in the Normandy’s kitchen/cafeteria area. When you speak with him, you’ll learn a great deal about what his job entails on the Normandy (he’s a bit of a renaissance man, as he’s responsible for cleaning, cooking, and fixing), but Mess Sergeant Gardner’s real passion seems to be related to food. He feels bad for those aboard the Normandy, that they are required to eat standardized rations crafted with standardized ingredients. He mentions to you that you can find him some quality ingredients while at the Citadel. Agree to help him, and you’ll acquire this side quest.

When you get around to going to the Citadel, you’ll be able to find the ingredients in relatively short order. At the southern end of the Citadel, near C-Sec Captain Bailey’s location, you’ll find a little mart run by a Turian called Zakera Cafe. Though you won’t be able to speak to the shop’s proprietor himself, you can still browse the store’s wares at a nearby computer terminal. Examine the items available for purchase (two Drew Karpyshyn novels and High Grade Provisions), and purchase the provisions for five-hundred credits. With those in hand, it’s time to return to the Normandy to drop off your galactic groceries.

When you return to the Normandy and inform Mess Sergeant Gardner of the good news, he’ll thank you for acquiring the groceries, and inform you that he’s already been cooking up some new, good stuff. He’ll offer to let you try one of his new concoctions, so take him up on his offer or don’t, it’s entirely up to you. After your brief conversation with him ends, this side quest will wrap up.
