The Call of Duty franchise has been one of the most innovative, creative, and impressive first person shooters on the market. Its latest installment, Call of Duty: Black Ops certainly lives up to its predecessors (and even surpasses them in some peoples’ opinions). And along with the solid single player campaign and fantastic multiplayer, extras such as fully playable mini games are hidden away to offer even more gaming! But, how do you unlock these games?

Just hours after its release, players had already discovered a few secret modes. Although Activision tried to wipe YouTube off of the videos that tried to teach other players how to access these secret modes, there are countless blogs and online articles that have been talking about these Easter eggs.

Firstly, for all of you who have played the game, you will be familiar with the game’s main menu where the player character is strapped onto a chair and is being interrogated. Repeatedly move the analog sticks left and right. If you do it fast enough and you will be able break the shackles. Once you break out, look for a computer terminal on the other side of the room. Upon trying to access it, a popup keyboard will appear. Type in “DOA” in all caps and you will be able to unlock the Dead Ops arcade game which will be available under the Zombies tab in the main menu screen.

You can also play another bonus mini game, the classic 70’s text adventure Zork. Simply key in “Zork” in the same computer terminal and you will be able to access it. For those of you unfamiliar with Zork, it is an interactive fiction text adventure game, one of the very first of its kind. The goal of the game is to find treasures in caves and labyrinths, old castles and mazes – much like the dungeon crawlers of today.
Overall, Call of Duty Black Ops in itself is already a well rounded, complete game. The mini games and hidden modes simply add more flavor to an already addictive title.
