Level 1: Avalon’s Advanced Armaments Academy
The Mighty RoboBun is yours to command in the first stage of Avalonia. The Robobun can jump much higher than the average Sackboy, and it also has a fearsome stomp that enables it to negotiate enemies. While riding the RoboBun, you’ll also be able to take a few more hits than usuat; that lifebar declines more quickly than you think though, so don’t abuse it!
This next section will take some careful jumping to complete. Use the slam attack to break through the floor, taking care to grab the stickers along the way. When you reach the bottom, you will be face with electrified robots. Carefully jump on them to avoid being shocked, but don’t kill them all or you won’t be able to obtain the prize bubbles. Afterward, you will abandon the RoboBuns for a MechaPup:
MechaPups move straight to the side while sporting a handy Sonic Bark attack. This attack can be used to move pesky crates and other items that block your way. Be careful when you reach these flippers though, because they will flip back around and hit you with some serious pain.
Your final ride consists of a pair of gerbils that can break through walls with a handy rush attack. Even better, they can climb to ceilings as well! Enjoy the ride, but don’t forget to pick up the stickers along the way!
Level 2: Got the Hump
This stage is a straight shoot ‘em up challenge. You will have a chance to acclimate yourself to the controls by taking a few shots at pictures featuring Avalon’s face, then it will be off the real challenge. Shoot everything that moves!
After you’ve had a chance to try out the camel’s armaments, the Meanies begin to arrive. They will come from above and below, so detail one player to cover each side of the screen. Be mindful of the ammo that the Meanies launch, as you will need to shoot it down to avoid being hurt.
The final challenge in this level is a massive Meanie that will attack with mines and missiles. Detail one to attack the ammunition it lobs at you while the other fires at the creature’s eye. It will go down in short order.
Level 3: The Sackbot Redemption
After the unfortunate deestruction of the aptly named Huge Spaceship, you will find yourself in command of what Avalon refers to as “Bee 2.0.” Begin by snagging some prize bubbles in the lefthand corner, then fly up and through the gauntlet and pick up four Sackbots and drop them in the nearby tube.
Your next task is to create a bridge for the wayward Sackbots. Fly to the top of the screen and given the block on either side a good shove with the help of your bees. They will teeter and drop to form a bridge for the Sackbots.
Carefully maneuver the final batch of Sackbots through the electrical gauntlet in your path. You will come upon a barrier that you cannot pass, but there is a tube nearby that is large enough for a Sackbot. Push them in and they will hit the button to open the barrier. With the final Sackbots through, the Huge Spaceship will be on its way once again.
Level 4: Flying in the face of Danger
The next level is another shoot ‘em up stage. This time it’s a horizontal shoot ‘em up, Gradius-style, as you fire honey shots from the back of your Bee 2.0. A Checkpoint Door will follow you, so you can respawn anytime you die. Die too many times though, and it’s back to the beginning of the level with you. The toughest challenge is acquiring all of the prize bubbles as they are situated on either side of a barrier. Either coordinate with a partner, or grab them all on one side and try to do a quick backward move to get the other.
Midway through the level, the perspective will suddenly shift to the vertical and a group of Meanies will attack. They will slowly work their way down the screen as they fire, and they take some punishment, so fire as fast as you can. When you reach the top of the screen, the level will be over and Huge Spaceship will have escaped!
Level 5: Huge Peril for Huge Spaceship
Now that Huge Spaceship is away, the Meanies have brought in a massive battlecruiser of their own! The Meanie Cruiser’s relies on the powerful Wave Motion Gun situated in its nose, which can take you down in one shot. When it begins glowing, get out of the way.
As it happens, it’s weak point is also in its nose, so you’ll have to be careful. Attack it enough, and the original Wave Motion Gun will be destroyed… only be replaced by two more more! The arms will spread out from a central point, so that’s your cue to move up and away. You will have a narrow window in which to take out the two weakpoints located in the monstrosity’s “armpits.” When you’ve finished off the final weak point, the Meanie Cruiser goes down, but so does Huge Spaceship. What now?
