Jungle Valley
The opening section for this level stresses the ability to move silently and quietly. Your default weapon for the start of this chapter is perfect for this because it’s very, very accurate and perfect for headshots and it comes with unlimited ammunition, Perks!
The downside is that it can’t do much in the way of automatic fire and works best as a short-burst. So if you’re detected by the Helghast, it’s best to switch to an automatic weapon to fight off the enemy, but try your hardest to keep that from happening.
One goal for this level (aside from performing this recon) is to remain undetected the whole time. Doing so will reward you with the Never There Trophy. For that, we’ve put together a video that shows each of the enemy locations and how best to eliminate them as quiet as possible to ensure you obtain this Trophy. This video covers the Jungle Valley, Behind the Vale, and some of the Cruise Wreckage section of this chapter.
Cruiser Wreckage
After the cut-scene finishes, immediately pick up the M224-1A LMG that is just to your right and then duck into the cave to your immediate left to avoid enemy fire. This is a good cover spot (for now) because the Walker and Helghast will be firing on your location almost the moment the cut-scene is complete. The LMG itself works great to inflict some serious damage on the Walker (yes, you can destroy it) but stay out of range of its flame thrower and duck for cover when it fires a volley of missiles. Just be sure to use the nearby ammo crate to replenish your ammo before you move from this location.
Once the Walker is destroyed, duck into the cave passage across form you and continue to fire on the Helghast soldiers that are in the area until all are eliminated. Another Walker will arrive as well your LMG works great to destroy it. Continue to backtrack your way out of this area and continue back towards your base, eliminating Helghast along the way.
Kaznan Deep
As you approach Kaznan Deep the area with a ravine and some cover positions your priority target is the flame trooper running at your direction and the rocket troopers who just arrived via a Dropship across from you. Use the LMG to quickly eliminate the flame thrower trooper and then concentrate your fire on the rocket troopers, ducking for cover whenever you see a rocket coming in your direction.
Once these three threats have been eliminated, continue into the ravine and follow that through to the next area while taking out some basic soldiers in the area. Take cover behind either of the makeshift barriers to fire on the troops and the flame thrower trooper. You may have to move from one cover location to the next if a grenade is tossed your direction. Once they’re eliminated, continue forward towards the thick fog.
Continue to press forward through back through the direction you came eliminating the Helghast threat. You will encounter Capture Troopers for the first time as well. These fast moving armored Helghast will one-hit kill you with their blade if you let them get close enough to you. If you’re fast enough, you could melee kill them as well to pick up the Turn the Tables Trophy.
As you continue forward you’ll start to see some ISA corpses. One of which that is resting on a ledge before you drop to the ground below contains a VC1 Flamethrower. If you like your Helghast extra crispy, pick up this weapon. But be warned — it’s range is terrible and it doesn’t contain a lot of ammo but the damage it dishes out is significant. As tempting as it was, we still stuck with our LMG for the remainder of this section. Once you rendezvous back at the base a short cut-scene will play.
ISA Camp Siege
There are a variety of weapons to use in this area that you can use to hold back the Helghast advance. For the opening attacks we went with the VC32 Sniper Rifle to pick off a number of enemies from a distance. You also have rocket launchers that can be used to take out the Walkers in the area.
The Walkers in particular can make this entire standoff more difficult than it should be. As such, these should be a priority target. They can be destroyed by a variety of weapons (obviously a lot faster if you use a rocket launcher); just make sure you take them out.
Once the Walkers have been eliminated, it’s just a matter of time until the level will automatically end. All you have to to is continue attacking the Helghast from cover as the mist slowly starts to take over the remainder of the base. Keep fighting until the cut-scene kicks in, ending the chapter.
