This guide will walk you through the gift and armor upgrades for Dragon Age II characters. We’ve broken it down into 2 different guides so make sure to check out part 2 as well.

BETHANY AND CARVER

Armour Upgrades

These are the Heirloom Amell Protective Sigils and the Fereldan Gilded Plating. Both are found during the ‘Birthright’ mission early on in Act 1. They’re in a chest in the last room of the mission.

Portrait of Your Mother or Tobrius’ Document

Also during the ‘Birthright’ mission, rifle through the chest in the store room to find these items. Note that the item found is dependent upon which character you’re using.

MERRIL

Armour Upgrades

Head up Sundermount in Act 2. Go past the mountain graveyard and the spiders, all the way to the top. That is where you will find the Silver-Threaded Dalish Embroidery.

Pick up the Carved Ironwood Buttons from Illen’s Craft Shop on Sundermount, also during Act 2.

Robes by Jean Luc has the Samite Lining. Get it in Act 2.

Finally, the Halla Horn Buckles is looted after the battle with the pride demon in ‘A New Path’ during Act 3.

Gifts

Head to Sundermount during ‘A Murder of Crows’. You will be attacked by thieves once you arrive; the ring is on the Thief Leader’s corpse.

Pick up this gift from Illen’s Craft Shop during Act 2.

AVELINE

Pick up the Underpadding Guardsman Patter at the Armor Merchant’s Shop during Act 1 in Lowtown.

Get the Flex-Chain Guardsman Pattern off of Fell Orden during ‘Raiders on the Cliffs’ in Act 2.

The Impact Plating Guardsman Pattern can also be found at the Armor Merchants Shop, also during Act 2.

Find the Deflecting Joints in ‘Fault and Favor’ in Act 3. Be sure to have completed ‘The Way it Should Be,’ her companion quest from Act 1 beforehand. At the end of ‘Fault and Favor’, search Jeven for the final upgrade.

Gifts

After you speak with the viscount during ‘Offered and Lost’, at Ser Varnell’s Refuge, grab the Shield of the Knight Herself. It is in a crate in the southwest area of the map.
